Publisher's Description

The only thing funnier than marriage is Rick and Bubba talkin' about it!

Rick and Bubba are at it again, and this time it is all about marriage. Addressing such topics as apologizing (The Ten Worst Ways to Say I’m Sorry), communication (Grunting Is Not a Language), date nights (Worst Date Nights in History), finances (I Thought You Paid the Gas Bill), and playing sports together (I Did Too Let You Win), the two "sexiest fat men alive" will have couples everywhere tied in knots. With stories, top ten lists, and even a bonus addendum of their oft mentioned, "The Book of Blame," this humorous look at marriage is long overdue. This book will revolutionize your way of looking at married life. And it might just remind you all over again why you fell in love in the first place.

WARNING: If you have a tendency to laugh aloud hysterically then reading this book in the privacy of your own home would probably be a better choice versus reading at the local coffee shop. Rick & Bubba manage to provide serious marital insight softened by large amounts of comedic release. Personal anecdotes make the material relatable to the reader. The cover alone, portraying the authors as diaper clad cupids, serves as assurance the reader will be entertained. Do not be fooled though, by the seemingly light hearted approach to marriage. Just a few lines into the intro one gleans a nugget of truth; Marriage teaches us to love an imperfect person perfectly. Other such gems are the inclusion of grace in the Elements of Marriage. Grace, according to the authors requires forgiveness even when, sometimes your spouse wont deserve to be forgiven. Good marriages are described as being made up of two good forgivers. Shared generously, the misadventures of Rick, Sherri, Bubba & Betty, find the reader smiling broadly in agreement while simultaneously reflecting on personal martial road bumps. Also valuable is the scientific description of proper kissing technique provided by Rick. The book provides a good balance of practical application blended with Bible references that any reader, married, engaged or dating would find informative.***In exchange for this review, Thomas Nelson provided a complimentary copy of the book reviewed.

Rick and Bubba's Guide to the Almost Nearly Perfect Marriage is funny and well written. It uses the Bible as the basis for many marriage concerns. I had never heard of Rick and Bubba before but they are hilarious and use many of their real life situations to make their points. I do have to admit that I am not married so some things aren't as relevant to me as they might be to someone else. Also, I think this book is more geared toward a man, this is probably because it is written by men! This doesn't mean a woman would not enjoy it, I did, but some things are just more for the guys in this book. The book has lots of jokes and comedic situations sprinkled throughout, makes for a interesting and quick read. I, an unmarried girl, told many of the jokes and situations to my (married) parents who found them funny especially my mother. Guess it takes a woman to find "Rick and Bubba's Shopping List" funny! Rick and Bubba have been married for 33 years between them and each has several children, so they've lots of experience in both marriage and parenthood. They conquer lots of topics such as apologizing (The Ten Worst Ways to Say I'm Sorry), communication (Grunting Is Not a Language), and date nights (Worst Date Nights in History). Sound good? Need a new and funny marriage book? Go check this out!

This book turned out to be very entertaining. The authors take a silly tone with their advice, but they do have some good tips, such as Men, despite what they tell you, women really do want a gift. That's not very serious advice, but I can tell you it's true! When people are talking about how to have a good marriage, that's not going to come up, but it's good to keep in mind that making each other happy in the little ways accounts for a big part of having a "good marriage."I think their little examples are helpful: have date nights, cut each other some slack on the little things, etc. But one big message that I really appreciate from this book is that marriage isn't perfect. Sometimes its not working very well, but you owe it to yourself, your spouse, and God to seek counseling before you just give up. Divorce has become the easy answer, but God never intended marriage to be a trade up. Have a sense of humor and realize that no one is perfect. A fun read that isn't too serious to enjoy, but you can learn a little from it!I am a member of Thomas Nelsons Book Review Blogger program: http://brb.thomasnelson.com.

This book is funny! I love writers who have the talent to make me laugh aloud while I'm reading, and therefore, I love Rick Burgess, Bubba Bussey, and Martha Bolton. I laughed throughout this book. Many times, I stopped reading to drag my husband's attention from the game he was watching on TV so that he could listen while I read him a particularly funny section. He never minded my interrupting his game, which proves that the man appreciates good literature.Along with the humor, comes sound advice on marriage based on principles from the Bible.

Rick and Bubba are not know-it-all geniuses, they each have a real marriage and their stories about their marriages will make you laugh while giving you insights on your marriage.Included are: * "Rules of Engagement for Women" and "Rules of Engagement for Men" * "Top 10 Worst Ways to say, 'I'm Sorry'" * "Top 10 Reasons Some Husbands Don't Pick Up After Themselves" * The Book of BlameWhile there is a lot of laughter and jokes, there are also some real gems of insight: "Show us a good marriage, and we'll show you a union of two good forgivers. In fact, one reason the divorce rate is so high, especially among christians, is that many of us have forgotten how to forgive."And "Men want to be their wife's hero. Yet many wives find it easier to love, feed or clothe their husbands than to show them respect."This is not a dry dull book on how to improve your marriage. Rick and Bubba are the guys your husband would go to the football game or hunting with. It gave me the opportunity to see the guy's side and a chance to see my marriage in a new light.
