Captivating stories of how a young doctors first year of medical practice in the Smoky Mountains shaped his practice of life and faith The little mountain hamlet of Bryson City, North Carolina, offers more than dazzling vistas. For Walt Larimore, a young flatlander physician setting up his first practice, the town presents its peculiar challenges as well. With the winsomeness of a James Herriott book, Bryson City Tales sweeps you into a world of colorful characters, the texture of Smoky Mountain life, and the warmth, humor, quirks, and struggles of a small country town. Its a world where the family doctor is also the emergency physician, the coroner, and the obstetrician, and where wilderness medicine is part of the job, search-and-rescue calls in the national forest are a way of life, and the next patient just may be somebodys livestock or pet. Elizabeth Swadley5 Stars Out Of 5May 19, 2010Elizabeth SwadleyI love these "Bryson City" stories. Dr. Walt Larimore describes his work, his family, and his faith, withclear and beautiful words. After I read "Bryson CityTales," I couldn't wait to read the two sequels, "Seasons" and "Secrets" and enjoyed themthoroughly, too. I highly recommend these books!
Lilly Pomeroy5 Stars Out Of 5March 16, 2010Lilly PomeroyIf you loved "Christy" then you will enjoy this book. Dr. Larimore writes about his personal experiences in the N.C. community of Bryson City on the edge of the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. Dr. Larimore has a very easy to read writing style. Once you start reading this book, you will not want to put it down until you finish it. This book would be a great book to read aloud.
Deborah5 Stars Out Of 5July 5, 2008DeborahI don't think I have ever laughed so much while reading a book. It was an easy read and had so much in it to learn from. There were spiritual issues, relationship issues, and the complexity of coming to a small town and trying to become a part of the already-established community. This could have been in any rural area in the United States. Thanks to Dr. Larimore for sharing his experiences with all those who have read this book. I learned much.
