Author Bio

Vicki, a freelance writer, is an avid traveler who has drawn closer to God through her travels. With hopes to see more of the world, she has already journeyed to 40 countries across five continents. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from California Polytechnic State University, and has written or coauthored numerous books including Wonderlust, Be Patient, God Isn’t Finished with Me Yet, Everyday Prayers for Everyday Cares, and Glimpses of an Invisible God. Over the years, she has learned that it is not a lust for adventure, but a hunger for God that is at the heart of her passion to explore new horizons, both geographically and personally. When Vicki and her husband, Mark, are not on the road, they reside in Phoenix, Arizona. They have been married 27 years, and have two married children, Ryan and Katrina.

Vicki Kuyper is a freelance writer, loves to travel and has grown closer to God through her travels. Vicki Kuyper uses Philippians 4:8 and the concept of touchstones to focus the believer to the deeper things of Christ. Her intent in writing this text is to assist the reader with their desire to move closer to God. She accomplishes this through the use of personal stories, scriptural references, and the concept of touchstones. Breaking the Surface is a book that can be read alone or as a group study.I love her style of conversational writing which draws the reader in and you feel like you are sitting with the author over a cup of coffee listening to a delightful interpretation of Philippians 4:8. I would consider using this book as discussion group text. There is enough there to draw a lively discussion. For instance, her belief in tattooing and some of discussion questions located at the end of each chapter. She has creatively titled these sections Deep C Fishing. (Look at the title and you will get the pun)! One of several favorite quotes from the book: Beauty may catch our eye, but its lovely that satisfies; lovely draws us toward whats of eternal worth, toward a relationship with God. Her point is that our thoughts need to be directed to God to find the deeper things of God versus being distracted by the daily things of life. November 20, 2009
