Annie Downs is an author and speaker based in Nashville, Tennessee. Flawed but funny, she uses her writing to highlight the everyday goodness of a real and present God. By weaving together personal stories, humor, and Scripture, she invites the young women reading to experience fulfilled lives with a God who made them on purpose and loves them deeply. When shes not writing books or traveling for speaking events, Annie spends her days writing all over the internetblogging at AnnieBlogs.com and incourage.me, sharing truths about her life in Nashville as a single Christian woman and the stories that are woven into each day. Annie is a huge fan of singer/songwriters, burritos, the Internet, her community of friends, and sports of all kinds.
loreallepaAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Great BookNovember 27, 2014loreallepaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleFor several reasons, this is a tough book to organize my feelings in an impressive way to present to you. I admit, this was a hard one for me to read. At first, I couldn't stand her writing style. Actually, that feeling continued well into the book. I felt like she jumped from one subject to another and trying to concentrate so hard to follow her made me lose my interest. Her writing style felt like I was reading a bunch of little blog posts, separated into chapters. I have this bad habit of once a book becomes hard for me to read, I lose interest.
This book is written in a memoir style and was a story of one woman, Annie, who learned to be brave right where she was and now carries the torch-of-courage hoping to light an un-lit one. Her basic premise is to encourage us all to be brave in the little moments of our lives, which lead to the biggest moments... and being brave looks like following Christ, even when you aren't comfortable when you see where you're headed.
This book was provided to me free of charge by Book Look in return for my honest review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Simply EmmyBacolod City, PhilippinesAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Be Brave EverydayNovember 1, 2014Simply EmmyBacolod City, PhilippinesAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3In this book, Annie uses personal experiences and biblical stories to offer this memoir-style inspiration on what it is like to be brave. She makes it plain that bravery is born in small moments and everyday decisions.
Downs writes in a conversational tone, it feels as though I'm chatting with her across the table. The writing style is very informal, a personal essay, but without losing the depth of her message. Just like we need to brush our teeth everyday, sometimes we need to hear about bravery, being loved and loving others every day.
With chapter titles such as Say Yes and Say No or Hold On and Let Go, Annie is able to explain how bravery is both. It takes God's wisdom to know when to do what - when to say yes or say no, when to hold on or to let go.
Although the book feels like it's a several blog posts from different seasons of her life, curated to make it into one book, what I like is how Annie explains that she is not a perfect example, and thats even more encouraging. She write in utter honesty. She doesnt know it all, she hasnt always made perfect choices, and shes still trying to figure some things out and thats perfect to read about. And inspiring.

I went to college with Annie and know her to authentic and funny. I expected her book to be the same, and I was not disappointed. What I did not expect was to weep through a large portion of the book.
I can't even say why, exactly, this book made me weep except that it hit me in my tender spot. You know, the place where God has already been poking and prodding. My "word" that God gave me at the beginning of this year was BRAVE. I have had, as we all do, many chances to practice being brave this year, but in reading this book I feel God's summons to me was taken to a new level.
Let's All Be Brave challenges and encourages, awakening old dreams while inspiring new ones, highlighting big acts of bravery while applauding small ones. Even in reviewing this, I feel myself shiver with anticipation for opportunities that I know are coming my way. Chances to say yes and dive into the unknown as well as the difficult known.
I definitely recommend Annie's book. Even if you don't read something in it you've never seen before, you will be reminded of many truths and opportunities you will want to grab hold of for the future.
I gave my opinion on this book in exchange for a free copy from BookLook Bloggers. My opinions are my own.

This book was quick to grab my attention because of Annie's writing style. Reading this book was more like a long chat with a friend over coffee than someone telling you what to do. Annie is real and relatable and not afraid to share her own faults in a way that will encourage you to do the hard things. She talks about her own life experiences in real life terms with no pretense. She doesn't sugar coat things, but tells things exactly how they were. If you have a big dream or a little one that you are wanting to conquer, but just don't know if you can, or where you would start, this book is an encouragement to do the hard things in life. She encourages her readers to do the things that they know that they are called to do, but that aren't necessarily the easiest options. The book is like a pep talk to live a courageous life, and I think it would be great especially for young women trying to figure out what they should do with their lives, or anyone trying to make their life meaningful. Annie encourages readers to push past the mundane and embrace the life that God has called them too.
RecipesDealsEtcAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A MUST READAugust 23, 2014RecipesDealsEtcAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Rarely does a book come around that I actually stop reading just to I don't have to finish it. Annie Downs has written a beautiful, funny, on point book that left me wishing she and I were best friends and this conversation could never end.
Let's All Be Brave is Downs first book written to a wide audience of women instead of targeting teens. Her transition is seamless. This book covers the subject of what happens in our lives and personal relationship with Jesus when we chose the road less traveled.
Throughout the individual essays Downs writes of her life journey allowing you to learn of her deepest aches, life decisions and what I most appreciated, her leading by that small voice in her heart. I think the thing I loved most was that Annie Downs honesty and vulnerability left me feeling that my own struggles, doubts and fears were not only common, but manageable. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to understand how brave choices create a life loved.
