Born Again is the autobiography of one of the most influential men of our time. It is not only a remarkable story of one mans redemption in Christ, but a fascinating look inside the events of one of our generations most riveting sagas.
In 1974 Charles W. Colson pleaded guilty to Watergate-related offenses and, after a tumultuous investigation, served seven months in prison. In his search for meaning and purpose in the face of the Watergate scandal, Colson penned Born Again. This unforgettable memoir shows a man who, seeking fulfillment in success and power, found it, paradoxically, in national disgrace and prison. In the decades since its initial publication, Born Again has brought hope and encouragement to millions. This remarkable story of new life continues to influence lives around the world through a dozen foreign editions.

He ordered one and sent it to his nephew who said "There were times that I could not put the book down." I am reading the book now and not only do I find the Watergate history interesting I have enjoyed hearing of Colson's journey to becoming a Christian. A must read for Christians and non-Christians alike.

I am very glad I did. What an amazing journey from being on the wrong side of Watergate to being fully surrendered to God and founding Prison Fellowship ministries, along with his wife, which is now worldwide. I believe Colson's trailblazing efforts have made it possible for many of God's servants to reach many inmates for Christ. I loaned this book to a friend on Sunday. By Wednesday he had finished it and asked permission to pass it on to his granddaughter. It is truly a work that every Christian should read, especially if you lived through the Watergate years, as I did.

I read it a year ago and it still resonates with me. I picked it up because I had issued a small challenge to myself to read more non-fiction and I was interested in learning some history on Watergate since I was never really taught about it in school. (At least I have no memory of it). I knew the book would tell me the story of Chuck Colson's time in the White House and his time spent in prison because of "the Watergate Scandal". I enjoyed getting the details on Watergate from his perspective but I did not expect to be so moved by the beautiful description of how this man was radically and completely converted . I see now that there really could be no other title suitable for this book. And just reading of how God was moving and working in our Nation's Capital at that time in history was surprising. I shouldn't be surprised by that, but I was, and encouraged as well.
This book, to me, is one that I believe all Christian's should read. It shocks me and saddens me that even today there are those that are suspicious of Mr. Colson's sincerety and integrity. One reading of this book should make the truth of his words and actions obvious. Not because Chuck Colson said them, or wrote them, but because the evidence of the Fruit of the Spirit has absolutely thrived in this man. If I had to describe Mr. Colson in just one word, it would be GENUINE.
So put it on your reading list, move it towards the top. You won't be disappointed.
