In this four-session video-based small group Bible study, New York Times best-selling author Eric Metaxas will help you discover the major themes of Dietrich Bonhoeffers writing and speaking and how he not only helped transform an entire faith community in Germany during World War II, but how his beliefs continue to impact the Christian faith of people throughout the world today.
Filmed on location in Germany, Metaxas will take you on a religious journey of Bonhoeffers faith and why it has captured so many peoples imaginations and how it has inspired the Christian faith of so many today. Pulling themes from all of his major books, Metaxas helps us understand why these spiritual truths meant so much to Bonhoeffer and how they can be an inspiration and challenge to our faith.
This small group study is based on Metaxass New York Times best-selling book, Bonhoeffer, features four 15 minute video sessions with Eric Metaxas, and the content in the guide will lead you and your group through session-by-session discussion topics and encourage individual reflection between sessions.

Deb T5 Stars Out Of 5A powerful, compelling studyApril 7, 2014Deb TMeets Expectations: 5I was not expecting to be so impacted by this study. Bonhoeffer's writing is remarkable-- insightful, honest, inspiring and convicting. The DVD segments (approx. 20 min. each) are well-done, combining period footage and photographs of Nazi Germany, an actor's voice reading excerpts from Bonhoeffer's writing, and modern footage of significant locations in Germany with author Eric Metaxis telling the story of Bonhoeffer's journey of faith.
Since the sessions are designed for a 90 minute time slot, I edited the suggested list of discussion questions and activities to fit our 1 hour meeting time. The content has yielded good, thoughtful discussion. Few in our group already knew Bonhoeffer's story, so I chose not to explain in advance that he was martyred, so there has been an element of suspense as we have followed Bonhoeffer's story.
We have one DVD segment left, and then may take an extra session to complete some activities we haven't had time for in our regular sessions to go deeper and actually practice some of what we've discussed.
Our group has used several different DVD study series over the past few years, but God has used this to engage people like none that we have used before. I'll be sorry for this series to end.
