Tell us a little about yourself. I am a full-time singer/speaker/comedian. Most people know of my work with comedian Mark Lowry of the Gaither Vocal Band and with Mark Hall of Casting Crowns. I conduct Sweet Life Dessert Comedy Theaters that are outreach oriented and I am president and founder of the Get Real Student Conferences.
What was your motivation behind this project? When I was 309 pounds, I had a lot of humor about being big which related when you are big. However, after losing 132 pounds I felt I needed to "thin" that material out of my normal routine. Yet, the humor was still funny. I decided to put that humor and my weight loss journey in a new book. Basically I cover how and why I got fat, what motivated me spiritually and physically to lose my weight, and then the diet itself. I lost the first 100 pounds in six months... with NO EXERCISE! That related to people!
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? This book is not just a diet book but my journey which gives people hope. It's my desire that not only large people will benefit from the book, but that thin people will also enjoy it for the entertainment value.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Mark Lowry, one of my best friends, has been a huge influence on my life. After graduating from Liberty University, I started in ministry as a singer. After church, Mark Lowry and I used to talk and I would tell stories of my life growing up on a farm in Georgia. He would laugh and tell me, "you need to put that in your concerts." So I did! Then more and more people wanted to hear me talk! I don't know how that makes me feel as a singer. Another friend and one of my favorite artists and authors is Mark Hall, lead singer/songwriter of the Grammy winning group Casting Crowns. He is an inspiration because he keeps the local church and local church ministry as his focus. He LOVES people and that shows in my local church where he serves as youth pastor. He uses his fame and celebrity as a platform to point people to Christ! That is something to truly admire in a national artist.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: In ALL you do in life, honor Christ!
