So now Jack is in a race, for the last time, to find the bones. And he's not the only one. Pitted against both the CIA and an organization that will kill to protect their secrets, Jack and Espy follow hard-to-decipher clues across the globe before arriving in the catacombs of Paris for a final showdown that will either save their family--or tear apart everything they hold dear forever.

I loved this book. It was really exciting. I enjoy any story with secret rooms and hidden treasure and all that interesting stuff! Although this book did not really seem like Christian fiction, there was nothing bad in it. The characters just did not talk about God very much. Other than that, Blood and Bone was a great book!

Blood and Bone jerks you into the story with a phone call to an average appearing family, but the tale broadens as the reader learns about the past. It is highly enjoyable for both the rapidly moving story and the tour of the world. The added dimension of the children in danger pulls at the heart of parental fear. This is kind of a mature Indiana Jones with a family. I totally enjoyed it, and will definitely be picking up more of Don Hoesel. I recommend it to readers who enjoy suspense with lots of twists and turns.

Blood and Bone is the third (and, I assume, final) book in the series by Don Hoesel and is just as exciting as Serpent of Moses.

In this book, Jack and Espy have married and settled into a "normal" life with their two boys. But it seems that their adventure with the bones of the prophet of Elisha is not quite over, and this time there is more at stake. When their boys are kidnapped, Jack and Espy find themselves once again traveling the globe in search of the bones that have reportedly given life back to the dead.

As Jack returns to his life of adventure, he is reminded of what is really important in his life. Through his journey with the bones, he sees that the true miracle is from God - not the bones.

While I enjoy Hoesel's writing very much, I feel that he misses an opportunity to point the reader to Christ when he is addressing such a biblical subject. In fact, at times, this seems just like an Indiana Jones-type story without God in the center. After all, Indiana Jones was always in search of biblical artificats as well.

I would recommend this book as a good read but not for its spiritual content.

This book was given to me in exchange for my opinion by Bethany House Publishers.

Jack Hawthorne, a modern day Indiana Jones, has settled down to a life of teaching and raising a family with his beautiful and fiery wife Espy. He's content with his lot until someone makes a decision - one that turns his world upside down.

In an instant Jack, Espy and their two sons - one seriously ill - are on the run from a government agent. An agent who has gone rogue in a battle to save his ailing wife. What is he after? The bones of the prophet Elisha. Bones that he buried in the Australian outback a good number of years ago.

Before long, Jack and Espy are embroiled in a race to not only retrieve the bones but to save their sons who have mercilessly been kidnapped.

During their frantic quest the seasoned historian and archaeologist meet new enemies and reacquaint themselves with old ones. From London, Paris and St. Petersburg, the couple strive to stay one step ahead of the enemy be it American, Israeli or British. Will the dynamic duo get their hands on the revered bones a second time? Can they do it in time to save their children?

Hoesel's third book in Jack Hawthorne's adventures of biblical artifacts is fast paced and dramatic. With explanations on the history that's discovered combined with detailed descriptions of the couple's environments makes for an exciting read. The author's style of writing doesn't make this a heavy read and the dialogue and interactions between characters are good.

I thought I may feel a little lost as I hadn't read the first book where Jack uncovers Elisha's bones but the book can still be read as a standalone as the author intersperses recollections from the previous adventure. I like the people met and the plot of uncovering artifacts and secret cults is riveting. However, I wasn't keen on the ending as it seemed almost an anticlimax. With all the will they/won't they get these bones throughout, the final chapters came across as almost rushed. Overall though, this is a good book especially if you're a fan of historical fiction infused with factual events and places. A recommended read.

This is the third book in the Jack Hawthorn series. I have read the first two and was excited to see that the third book was being published. I knew that another great adventure was just waiting beyond the cover of the book.

This book finds Jack and Espy about 10 years after the end of "Serpent of Moses". They have settled into a regular family life in North Carolina. Jack has returned to the profession of teaching that he has dreamed of. They have a comfortable, stable life with two sons, one which has cystic fibrosis. And all it takes is one phone call to shatter their tranquil lifestyle. With his family in danger, Jack and Espy set out to recover the bones of the prophet, Elisha and the healing power that they hold. Being chased from country to country by the CIA and a clandestine group bent on protecting their secrets, this story takes you on an adventure never seen before. Can they track down the bones after so many years? Who is behind all of this danger his family is in? If he can find the bones, should he turn them over to the group threatening him or should he keep them to heal his son? Danger abounds and questions are answered, but you will only find out if you BUY THE BOOK!

Once again I was not disappointed with the writing style of Mr. Hoesel. The story hooks you from the beginning and takes you on a wild ride. He develops realistic characters, characters that make you cheer for them, characters that make you down when tragedy befalls them. Yes, I felt there were some issues with storyline, (ie - A couple on the run but can hop from country to country without fear of being stopped along the way, their children being kidnapped but the parents acting as if that happened to them every day and they had already gotten used to the ideal) but this is a fiction book, so I'll let it slide this time 

Is this a guy's book? There doesn't seem to be any reason that a guy wouldn't read this book, unless they haven't read the other books in the series, then they just need to buy them all. The action, the adventure, the settings all will draw you into this book and keep you reading for hours
