Black Ice was a great read from start to finish, and in my opinion one of Linda's best books to date. The characters were interesting and real and the book left me wanting more in this series!

Linda Hall has done it againprovided her faithful readers with a novel rich in descriptions, filled with real and unique characters, and a mystery that keeps you turning the pages. Black Ice, the second book in the Fog Point Series brings back Fog Points quirky cast of characters that we all came to care about in Dark Water. Black Ice opens with Fog Points local busybody Lenore Featherjohns discovery of a young girl frozen outside her bed and breakfast entrance. Fearing her sons involvement in the murder of this unknown girl, Lenore moves the body, and positions the girls hands together as if in prayer. Lenores decision to alter the bodys location and position the hands fuels the local gossip and draws media attention, as they ask, are the folded hands a sign that she is an angel? Does she have mysterious healing powers? Who is she? Who killed her and why? Thus begins a mystery that involves a cast of thoroughly developed Fog Point characters that includes the resident minister, his wife, and his adopted daughter, along with the local PI team of Jake Rikker and May Williams. But Hall doesnt stop with the locals, as she delves into the girls past and through varied points of view she brings us characters who unravel the far reaching mystery. A fan of Linda Halls writing for years, it wasnt difficult for me to thoroughly enjoy Black Ice. I am drawn to Halls work because of her rich characters and her ability to engage them in fast moving yet intricate plots. Black Ice is no exception. Hall breaks the stereotype of a ministers wife with Amy who battles her burgeoning unbelief and gives us a glimpse into the real life of a ministers wife. Hall takes Lenore Featherjohn, a woman who would fall under the extra grace required category, and shows us what God sees in her, reminds us that no one is unimportant to God. All in all, Hall provides us with real people faced with real problems who happen to be caught up in a mystery that needs solving.

Amy McLaren, wife of a pastor, harbors serious doubts about her marriage and the Christian faith. Lenore Featherjohn pretends life is wonderful, though she has one son she never sees and two slobby ones living in her basement taking advantage of her good-heartedness. Dad Black grapples with the early stages of Alzheimer's, no longer knowing how to "get on the e-mail" to read the important messages he believes to be there. All of these people's lives are touched and changed by the tragic life and death of a teenaged girl named Tully Shenk. The mystery surrounding Tully is as chilling as the novel's title. The novel Black Ice is outstanding for its sensitive exploration of family relationships and of faith versus doubt, and piety versus pretense.

I can't rave enough about Linda Hall's latest novel! In my opinion, it ties with Island of Refuge as the best that Linda has ever written, since both of them kept me guessing till the end, and I loved the unpredictable unravelling of each mystery.Linda fills Black Ice with realistic characters and an intricate and intriguing whodunit, as well as a setting that brings it all to life. The pace of the story was perfect, and the answer to each question came along at just the right time.I enjoyed the pairing of detectives Jake and May, since I felt like I was reuniting with old friends. (Book 1 in the Fog Point Series is Dark Water, another great novel.) There was no risk of tiring of the familiar folks, however, because Linda brings in an excellent cast of characters to become entangled in the events she envisioned.Enough talk go get the book and have fun!
