A CALL TO WORSHIP
Breathing for the average human: it’s
continual, sustaining, natural; and many of us do it about 21,000 times per day.
Worship for the average Christian: it’s sporadic, a temporary high, a conscious effort; and many of us do it about once per week.
With Big Daddy Weave’s new album, Every Time I Breathe, the five-member band challenges us to transform our
worship into a life-giving necessity.
"How could I, after knowing One so great respond to You in any way that’s less than all I have to give?” sings lead singer/songwriter Mike Weaver in the album’s title track. This line sums up the strong suit of the album, its message to live as constant worshippers.
Musically, BDW breaths new life into older songs, such as Holland Davis’ “Arise” and Rich Mullins’ “Hold Me Jesus.” The group kicks out the century-old church organ and plays rounds of rhythmic hand drums, plucking strings and infusing their trademark saxophone to the classic hymn, “Trust and Obey.”
But, by the end of the album, you may have to stop and catch your breath. It is full of energy, ready to pack out venues for BDW’s renowned live performances.
Lyrically, each song is a reminder of God’s purpose for our lives—to worship Him and, as Mike Weaver puts it, “to encounter God every moment, as naturally as taking your next breath.”

Author: Mike Weaver, Big Daddy Weave Located in: http://www.bigdaddyweave.com/ Submitted: July 25, 2006 Tell us about your new album. On beginning our fourth record, as a songwriter,
one of my chief concerns has been how to keep
things fresh from a lyrical and musical
perspective. How do you find the kind of
inspiration to give folks something new, something
more interesting, something that has enough flare
to hold their attention in the midst of a world
full of loud and colorful distraction?
In the search for something that seemed popular
enough that folks would receive it, the idea of
who we as the writers are and more importantly who
the one is that we're writing about once again
came crashing down on me. God is so awesome and so
captivating that we could write songs for the rest
of eternity and we'd still be at the tip of the
iceberg. We are his children. We're redeemed by
his blood and called into a relationship with Him.
So for me, the way we write songs can be
approached in a number of ways, but as far as the
heart behind it all, the idea is to keep the
main thing the main thing. We've been writing
about God and our relationship with Him from the
first. Every Time I Breathe, is truly just
a continuation of what we've been about since Big
Daddy Weave began.
Worship is not just about a song and the time and
place that we sing that song. Worship is about our
entire life response to the greatness and the
glory of God. As a human, I've come to the place
where i don't even have to think about breathing.
It just happens. Breathe in and breathe out. As a
worshipper of God, that's the place that I want to
learn to live. Seeing God in every moment and then
responding, oh so naturally, with my life.
