The BHL includes features suitable for research, classroom, and liturgical use. Scholars will find this a welcome edition of the Leningrad Codex, the oldest complete manuscript of the Hebrew Bible, whose text and layout it precisely follows. A foreword and five appendices provide the researcher with important details and distinctions about the codex. In addition to being a scientific edition, it was originally commissioned in Israel to follow the necessary adaptations that qualify it for Jewish liturgical use, such as divisions into weekly portions and their subdivisions for synagogue reading. Students, too, will find here an ideal text for classroom use, with uncluttered format and printing that is matchless for its readability.
Includes appendixes, lay-flat binding, and other features essential for research, classroom, and liturgical use.

The most accurate edition of the Leningrad Codex in print, the Biblia Hebraica Leningradensia presents a thoroughly revised, reset, and redesigned edition of the Hebrew Bible meticulously prepared by renowned masoretic scholar Aron Dotan.

David LeeAge: 45-54Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5BHL is better than BHS since it has fewer mistakesApril 1, 2013David LeeAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Although Biblia Hebraica Leningradensia lacks a critical apparatus, it is still far superior to Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia because BHL has far fewer mistakes in the text than BHS. Aron Dotan, editor of BHL, was far more meticulous in his work than the editors of BHS. Also, the binding of BHL is sewed in, not just glued as is BHS. The absence of the apparatus in BHL isn't really a great loss since it's not that helpful. If you have text critical tools, you will easily find the information in the apparatus and more. But, the lack of mistakes, superior binding, and CBD's incredible sale prices encourage buying Dotan's BHL. I learned these facts when studying under Peter J. Gentry of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary of Louisville, Kentucky. His PhD is in Biblical Textual Criticism, and he's the best teacher I've ever studied under, including both Undergraduate or Graduate Studies. He's a chap filled with helpful info and a man whose love for the Hebraic text is most contagious! He's a scholar of the highest quality, but teaches in a way that makes things simple and easy to understand. Dr. Gentry prefers Dotan's text, and I like it too, especially for its accuracy. Thanks Dr. Gentry for your help! David
djsimonton5 Stars Out Of 5Great Hebrew TextOctober 10, 2012djsimontonQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The BHL is a great basic Hebrew text. Although it does not contain the vast information which the BHS does, it is a simple and in many cases, corrected text. If you are a student of Biblical Hebrew or interested in learning the ancient language, I recommend this text, it is a beautifully scripted text and is easier to read than some other Hebrew texts out there and the price is great.

Michael Sanders5 Stars Out Of 5May 4, 2010Michael SandersVery usefull Hebrew Bible at a great price! Just be aware that this is not a critical edition.
Dominic Aquilino5 Stars Out Of 5May 3, 2010Dominic AquilinoThis is a great Hebrew Bible! The font is easy to read and the Bible is small enough to carry around with you. If you are doing really in-depth, scholarly level work in the text, you may still want a BHS for textual information, but this is a great Hebrew Bible to carry around.
