BHL is better than BHS since it has fewer mistakes
Although Biblia Hebraica Leningradensia lacks a critical apparatus, it is still far superior to Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia because BHL has far fewer mistakes in the text than BHS. Aron Dotan, editor of BHL, was far more meticulous in his work than the editors of BHS. Also, the binding of BHL is sewed in, not just glued as is BHS. The absence of the apparatus in BHL isn't really a great loss since it's not that helpful. If you have text critical tools, you will easily find the information in the apparatus and more. But, the lack of mistakes, superior binding, and CBD's incredible sale prices encourage buying Dotan's BHL. I learned these facts when studying under Peter J. Gentry of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary of Louisville, Kentucky. His PhD is in Biblical Textual Criticism, and he's the best teacher I've ever studied under, including both Undergraduate or Graduate Studies. He's a chap filled with helpful info and a man whose love for the Hebraic text is most contagious! He's a scholar of the highest quality, but teaches in a way that makes things simple and easy to understand. Dr. Gentry prefers Dotan's text, and I like it too, especially for its accuracy. Thanks Dr. Gentry for your help! David

Great Hebrew Text
The BHL is a great basic Hebrew text. Although it does not contain the vast information which the BHS does, it is a simple and in many cases, corrected text. If you are a student of Biblical Hebrew or interested in learning the ancient language, I recommend this text, it is a beautifully scripted text and is easier to read than some other Hebrew texts out there and the price is great.
