Study notes on the passage in question; Isa. 14: 12...The KJV S/B notes that .."Lucifer most certainly refers to Satan". The word 'lucifer' does not belong in ANY Bible. It is NOT another name for Satan. It is a Latin word (a Latin word in a Hebrew book ??) inserted in the Latin Bible produced by Jerome for the Catholic church. The NKJV S/B correctly notes the Hebrew word that belongs in this verse is usually rendered 'morning star'. However, the notes continue that..." the reference to 'lucifer' is most certainly a reference to Satan". The Complete Jewish Bible renders this verse as ,,,"morning star, son of the dawn" and The Jewish Study Bible ( JPS-Tanakh Trans.) renders this verse as "...O Shining One, son of Dawn" . To me this indicates insufficient research, or a lack of research by those providing the study notes in the KJV S/B and the NKJV S/B. Current study bibles (ESV, NIV, Key Word NASB, & NLT do not reference 'lucifer'. It appears, that due to Jerome's use of the word in the Latin Bible, 'lucifer' has 'morphed' into a name for Satan, when clearly detailed research indicates that not to be the fact. Look up the definition of 'lucifer' in Latin for confirmation. J. P. Green's Interlinear Bible published by Hendrickson renders the Hebrew as "the son shining O" and Green's translation accompanying this verse renders it as "O shining star, son of the morning". There are pages more of research that this format will not accommodate. wlm
