In reviewing the Bible Overview I was initially pleased to find detailed and well organized outlines, maps and summary information in a format easily readable. I particularly like the numbered boxes noted inside the colored maps which indicate the order of events as they occurred at the specific locations.
I would like to have also seen dates inside the boxes to reference timelines while reading the maps. A few things I think would be nice to have in this book are historical timeline charts at the end of each book of the bible along with explanations of local manners and customs, phrases, weights, measures, difficult Bible sayings, colloquialisms etc. for each bible book.
An added section on How to study your bible, prayer for salvation and why use a bible overview for bible study would be especially helpful for novice Bible scholars or even someone who is not a Christian but maybe searching for truth.
I was offered a free copy of this book but decided to purchase my own e-book copy for research and to review. I was not disappointed and I find it especially helpful that the book is currently available for Kindle. Hopefully it will also be available on Audible for listening although I do not know how it would work out for the maps. If you need a thorough resource for bible study, this is a great book.
Deb TLos Angeles, CAGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent resource for your librarySeptember 18, 2013Deb TLos Angeles, CAGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When I got a chance to review the book I was drawn in from the introduction!
As I moved through its pages I found engaging text easy to understand by the novice while holding the interest of the seasoned Bible scholar. The beginning of the overview points out important keys to keep in mind as one moves on the exciting, transformational journey of examining the word of God.
Each book of the Old and New Testament is illustrated by a descriptive summary that is accompanied by an artist rendering or photograph. Images of artifacts are peppered throughout the text, bringing concepts and cultural themes to life. Significant terms and phrases are defined in a way that creates a seamless flow in the content. Easy to read maps and graphics allow the reader to connect deeply to the events.
There is a section in each summary that shows a direct link between then (what happened in Biblical times) and how those events carry over to now. This one highly, valuable, tool efficiently replaces three reference volumes currently in my library. I recommend this text to everyone interested in deepening their understating of God, His word and His Love!

Micah4 Stars Out Of 5Good for consise summaries.May 17, 2013MicahQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4The Rose Bible Overview is a good book for a quick study of a certain book. It portrays interesting facts with time-lines, pictures, side notes, charts, outlines and maps. This book gives facts about background, key verses, main themes, and application. One thing I thought was really cool was how the book showed Christ in each book overview, Genesis - Revelation.
It helps us get a greater grasp of who He really is.
In my opinion, this book would be great for new Christians as well as older ones, as it is a good study tool and still gives basic info for younger people to understand. One other thing is it shows the purpose of the book. This is helpful to those who may only see words, not getting it's real meaning. This helps people look past the genealogies and such to find the real meaning behind the story. God could certainly use this book to show one something he / she hadn't seen before. Although one could find the same information regarding a certain book by self-study, This helps.
Debbie from ChristFocusHarrison, ARAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent resourceFebruary 19, 2013Debbie from ChristFocusHarrison, ARAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5"Bible Overview" is a Bible reference book that gives a summary of each book of the Protestant Bible and also explains how it relates to the overall themes of the Bible--like how God interacts with mankind and mankind's need for a savior.
Overall, I found this book interesting, informative, and an easy enough read that tweens, teens, and adults could all get a lot out of it. This would make a great youth group or new believer Bible study on understanding the Bible as a whole. Rose Publishing permits making "up to 300 copies of individual pages from the book for classroom use."
"Bible Overview" starts with an introduction: how we got the Bible, reasons to study the Bible, and how to study the Bible. Next is an overview of the whole Old Testament. Later there's an overview of the whole New Testament, including some historical background information about the inter-testament period.
There's also an overview of each group of books (Pentateuch, historical books, poetry and wisdom books, prophetic books; gospels & acts, epistles & revelation). These explained why certain books were grouped together and also summarized the main themes, types of writing, and key people in that grouping.
Then, for each Biblical book, we told the book's purpose (a quick summary of the book and what we learn about God--and mankind--from the events in this book), where the book got its name, a chart or two summarizing important patterns or information, an outline of the major events and what chapters contain those events, who wrote the book and when (giving both traditional and "late dates"), where and when the events took place, the main themes, a few key verses, parallels and contrasts between how God related to mankind then and how God relates to Christians now, and the Jesus theme ("Christ fulfills this need").
Each also had a full-color timelime showing when events in that book took place and usually had a simple map showing the main locations and movements mentioned in that book. Some had a list of the most significant people in that book. Full-color pictures were used as decorative chapter headings, and some other paintings and photos were sprinkled throughout the book.
I received this ebook as a review copy from the publisher.
