I've recently read this book written by my very humble, kind Mt. Iron High School English teacher, Mr Lind. I enjoyed it, and will read his others. What I really want is to tell a little story about this man. I was a part of the worst class in the history of that school to that date, " The Dreaded Class of 1972". I"m know he will remember us, a group of 72 "non-conformists", somehow put together in the form of a high school class. We weren't into drugs, alchohol (a few had beer parties) typical teenage stuff. We were a wild, rowdy bunch who liked rebelling alot, for no apparent reason. We easily struck fear into the hearts of any teacher. It came time for our class's "Senior Banquet". (A tradition in our school) A Chaperone was needed. It had to be a teacher. To this day, I don't know why this man said "yes", but he did. No other teacher would do it. We really had no right to expect anyone to, much less Mr. Lind. We weren't alway very "kind" to him and tried our best to make his life miserable. I believe he agreed without flinching, much to our amazement. When we rebellious little monsters arrived at the restaraunt, there was Mr. Lind, still not flinching, very composed. The night went off without a hitch...no problems, To this day I still remember this kind, unassuming man who did this for us. We did NOTHING to deserve it. He did it anyway. Unusual man.. ...this very kind and unassuming English Teacher. we were lucky to have him. Kind of epitomizes Christian love, doesn't it? I believe this "review" will reach him somehow...at the right time. I don't know if he"s heard from any other member of the "Dreaded Class of 1972", but when you read this Mr. Lind, please know it comes with a great deal of appreciation, a huge apology for making your life more difficult than it should have been, I haven't forgotten...I understand why you did it. You taught me more than you realize. I remember you fondly. Thank you. Toni Mrachek Carlson
