New York Times best-selling author John C. Maxwell shows that talent is just the starting point for a successful impact in any organization. It's what takes you beyond your talent that matters.
People everywhere are proving him right. Read the headlines, watch the highlights, or just step out your front door: Some talented people reach their full potential, while others self-destruct or remain trapped in mediocrity. What makes the difference? Maxwell, the go-to guru for business professionals across the globe, insists that the choices people make?not merely the skills they inherit?propel them to greatness. Among other truths, successful people know that:
- Belief lifts your talent.
- Initiative activates your talent.
- Focus directs your talent.
- Preparation positions your talent.
- Practice sharpens your talent.
- Perseverance sustains your talent.
- Character protects your talent. . . . and more!
It's what you add to your talent that makes the greatest difference. With authentic examples and time-tested wisdom, Maxwell shares thirteen attributes you need to maximize your potential and live the life of your dreams.

Ben UmnusWisconsinAge: 18-24Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5October 28, 2011Ben UmnusWisconsinAge: 18-24Gender: maleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I have a friend who LOVES John Maxwell's books and I wanted to see why. When reading certain titles/descriptions of leadership books I've been a little turned off from reading them. Part of this attitude I think comes from the fact I get the thought: "oh this is going to be a book about being a good salesman". Let's just say I haven't been so business savvy and have had horrible results when trying to force myself into it. However, I got the impression Beyond Talent was written for a broader audience.
Beyond Talent focuses on the idea "not all successful people are successful, because of raw talent alone." John Maxwell throughout each chapter desires to motivate his readers into becoming leaders, to work hard, figure out their strengths and weaknesses, learn how to adapt and be more useful, and how to effectively set/accomplish goals. John also speaks of his leadership conferences, personal experiences, anecdotes from certain successful people of today, and even gives a bit of Biblical and Historical commentary on great leadership.
Honestly, this book was better than I anticipated; this was not meant for only salesmen. This is a book, when applied correctly, can help some who want to become more successful in their daily lives. I found the story of Louis, of Louis and Clark, and Charles Dickens to be fascinating and inspiring. However, I didn't agree with the idea "all successful people are talent plus people", because that isn't always true. For an example, there are people like Paris Hilton who inherited much of her riches and Randy Orton who became successful faster than others thanks to him being a legacy. There are certain factors of success which aren't covered in this book and quite frankly no book you're going to find will tell a reader how to accomplish EVERY goal as there are certain circumstances beyond our control. I did learn quite a bit from this book when reading the overall picture and I found the chapter exercises useful.

It is a delightful in becoming who God called you to be and expanding your gifts and talents. The author gave us some insightful information along with at the end exercises to assist you and prepare you for researching your talents. The title, itself tells us to become extraordinary people that get results and moving beyond your talents. This book has really given me a glimpse of what I need to accomplish as a writer and how I see myself as a writer-Valuable. Now I have no excuses but to take the limit off of my talents and allow God to us me beyond what I see. Thank You, John Maxwell for creating such a remarkable book and allowing God to use you in a way that reaches people.

John goes explains several topics relating to the influences on your talent, what strengthens it, sharpens it, energizes it and the affects relationships have on it. Being a business man himself, John Maxwell shares from experiences and knowledge that he has gain from others.

If you're a serious business man who longs to be successful while putting your faith in Christ first, this book is for you! I agree that belief focuses your talent, which is something we tend forget that matters. Character also protects our talent. JenniferOtisville, MIAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5John Maxwell never disappointsMay 16, 2011JenniferOtisville, MIAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I had requested this book based on that fact that I know John Maxwell writes amazing books. The basis of the book is that everyone has a talent but it's more than talent that makes success. You can't rely on your talent to take you to the top of the business ladder or to meet your goals. It takes "talent-plus". It's what you add to your talent that makes the difference.
I found this book highly useful and would recommend it to anyone looking for that extra push to take them to that next level in whatever they are doing. The practical steps mentioned in this book are relative to sports, academics, music, business, personal life and more. The choices people make, not just the skills and talents they possess, are what propel them further in life. He discusses focus, initiative, preparation, practice, perseverance, courage, character and many more that are an intrinsic part in the process you need to live the life you have always dreamed. "The secret to will power is what someone once called want-power." People who want something usually find the willpower to achieve it!
I love that he even weaves Scripture into his books. It's not forceful nor is it obtrusive but it's there and it's precise and timely. This book is full of nuggets that will take you far in training a team, your employees or yourself and your family. You can't go wrong when reading a book by John Maxwell. It is sure to not disappoint!
JasonAge: 35-44Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5Beyond Talent is Beyond GoodMay 16, 2011JasonAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Beyond Talent - Becoming Someone Who gets Extraordinary Results is written by leadership guru John C. Maxwell. Once you read this book you quickly realize "this ain't his first rodeo". John Maxwell has written several books on the subject of leadership and has spoken to and taught thousands. So it is no wonder that this book, Beyond Talent, is such a remarkable read.
If you are looking for a book on leadership that is easy to read but useful and is not filled with lots of psycho-babble then this is the book for you.
The book has a very informative table of contents which will be useful in the future as you will no doubt consult it again and again - this is no novel. The insight that John gives on leadership from the perspective of talent and giftedness not being enough is eye opening. He really fleshes out the idea that talent is only a start and that if you wish to really rise above there is so much more that must accompany it.
John has put together a list of 13 attributes in Beyond Talent that will ensure that the talent God has given is not wasted and reaches its truest potential. This list will not only aid in leadership endeavours but also life in general.
What makes the book even more compelling is that he has not simply relied upon his own experiences, as vast as they must be, but has utilized experiences from many other people. These range from successful NFL and College football coaches to business magnates to respected politicians. The book is also chock full of quotable quotes that are encouraging and also inspiring.
If you are looking for a great book on leadership but are not interested in reading a textbook full of complicated strategies and plans this book is for you.
Beyond Talent is beyond good.
