Beyond the Shades of Gray is based upon Christian fundamentals and beliefs. The author uses practical applications of Bible scripture throughout the book, without religiosity. Scripture is used to confront various aspects of this very controversial subject—head-on. Therefore, the author makes no apologies for the portions of this book that may seem to be more graphic in nature than your average “Christian” book. Homosexuality is a subject that absolutely needs to be dealt with truthfully, and without religious avoidance. If you are a person who has ever had doubts or questions about your sexual orientation or behavior, then what the author has written here is for you. This work includes information for women, but is otherwise a book written for men, by a man, regarding his own perspective on his unwanted homosexual behaviors. What one longs for is a deep and heartfelt sense of brotherhood, and the author proposes that the real issues behind homosexual behaviors are not about sex!
Amy Deace4 Stars Out Of 5A thorough look into the subjectJuly 27, 2013Amy DeaceQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4When I was looking for my next book to review, I honestly was looking for some easy reading. I've been reading some pretty deep stuff lately_the kind of books that you read a little at a time because it's just too much to take in all at once. I really was looking for some good fiction. I even looked at a couple Christian historical romances (which I hardly ever read). But, God kept redirecting my eye to this book, Beyond the Shades of Gray. I sat in my chair and had an internal struggle with God for a while telling him I'd really like some easier reading for a change, but He can be pretty insistent with his nudgings and I've learned that if He's nudging me in one direction I better just shut up and listen to Him because He's always right. Yet again, He has proven in my life that He is God and I am not by allowing me the opportunity to read this book and share my thoughts with you.
Let me start by saying that the author states that this book is written for men. Although there is plenty of information in it that women would find of interest, it is being written for men to read. Also, the author's descriptions of some things could be considered a little graphic for some readers so please be aware of that if you are thinking about reading this book.
The author, Dean Bailey, is very open and honest about his past and his testimony. I always find it very refreshing hearing from someone that has walked the walk they are asking you to walk. Bailey has covered every possible topic and angle that you can think of when it comes to struggling with same sex attraction and homosexuality. I found that one of the best parts of this book is the fact that it is broken down into easy to read sections. For example, if you were only interested in reading about gay marriage, you could easily go to that section and read about that.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is dealing with same sex attraction or someone that loves someone who is. Although at times, I found the book exhaustive and too thorough, I can see that for the right audience, this book would be wonderful.
