When Katie Lapp finds the satin infant gown in the dusty leather trunk of her parents' attic, she knows it holds a secret she must discover. Why else would her Amish mother, a plain and simple woman who embraces the Old Order laws, hide the beautiful baby dress in the attic? But nothing could have prepared Katie for the startling news that stumbles out of her anguished parents on the eve of her wedding to Bishop John. Will Katie suddenly find herself a stranger in the community she has always called home?
Now in a special edition to coincide with the release of the Hallmark Channel movie, this poignant story of redemptive love offers readers a fascinating glimpse into the cloistered world of the Amish and the traumatic, life-shaking experience known as The Shunning.

I always enjoy wholesome books so I enjoyed reading it but I would not classify it as a "can't put it down" book. I felt the the story fell flat in some places. The thing that really moved me was reading the absolute love that Rebecca had for Katie although she was not her birth mother. I felt bad for bishop John and his children. I would recommend this book to other readers as it is a nice clean story.

She did(love u Mommy!)and as soon as I got in the car I began to read it and as usual was consumed into it. I absolutely loved it and I was glad I read it. So I didn't watch the movie and I only will if it's exactly like this one. Full of mystery and NO SHE DIDNTs I beg u to pick a copy. You'll LOVE Katie(Katherine). And the suspense in Beverly Lewis' first novel. Bless u bunches love Mama Luv. :)
LinnMichiganAge: 55-65Gender: female2 Stars Out Of 5Highly disappointed compared to the book.April 29, 2011LinnMichiganAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 2Value: 2Meets Expectations: 1I have read many of Beverly Lewis' books and thoroughly enjoyed them. The Shunning was excellent and I could not put it down. The movie was highly anticipated and highly disappointing. The story was flat compared to the book and the actress of Katie Lapp looked like she was wearing eye makeup which looked completely out of character. Others I have talked to who saw the movie agree that they missed the mark on many levels. I watched the movie on TV, but I wouldn't buy the DVD unless you haven't read the book.
