Children cannot build themselves into responsible adults. They need for you to reach out to them in love-to love them into a sense of belonging, because raising a family is life's greatest challenge. When we reach out and influence a child for good, it is perhaps the most important thing we will do in a lifetime. In this book, the authors shares some of the lessons he has learned as a dad, a foster granddad, and a Sunday school teacher for nearly fifty years.
God bless S. Truett Cathy! It was a pleasant surprise to read a book about serving God from such a prominent person as the founder of Chick-fil-A, one of the largest privately-held restaurant chains.
This book in reality has two messages: children need a godly influence, preferably from their parents, but if not them, anyone; and the sooner they receive this influence the better off they will be spiritually, and the better chance it will take root.
As much as Christian prison ministries are critical, it is curious that many churches wait until it is harder, if not impossible, to affect lives that have been set on the wrong path. Using his own life as an example, Cathy demonstrates the importance of working with children, providing a spiritual authority that will teach them respect, selflessness, love, and discipline. This reviewers life too was changed because of Christians who answered Gods call to become foster parents. What a great treasure!
Cathy encourages at the same time challenges parents to realize their full responsibilities God has required of them. Children are not just our future, but present kingdom disciples as well. -- Tammy Hornbeck, Christian Book Previews.com
