Product Description

This book traces the first steps of the prophet history remembers most for rebelling against God's call to preach salvation to the people of Nineveh. But, as is often true of a divine calling, a period of preparation and a test of faith must come first.

In Ben Amittai: First Call, recounting Scripture's first mention of Israel's most memorable prophet (2 Kings 14:25), author Bruce Judisch takes Jonah, son of Amittai Ben Avram, a tanner from Gath-hepher, and his friend and protector, Elihu, on a tumultuous journey from Galilee to Samaria with God's message of deliverance to the court of King Jeroboam II. Years of agonizing silence had followed the angel's first startling exhortation to Jonah: "PREPARE YOURSELF". Even after his beloved mother's revelation of their family's life-changing encounter with the great prophet Elisha, Jonah had grown weary, believing Adonai had revoked the tanner's call to prophecy. But nothing could be farther from the truth...

Author/Artist Review

Author: Bruce Judisch
Located in: San Antonio, Texas
Submitted: November 30, 2006

Tell us a little about yourself.  My wife of nearly 35 years, Jeannie, and I are active in our home church here in San Antonio. My three children and eight grandchildren are our greatest joy. My interests include teaching, writing, guitar and camping.

What was your motivation behind this project?  In researching the Book of Jonah while teaching an adult Sunday School class through the Minor Prophets, I was struck with how much and how little the book tells us of the man and his experiences. I told my class, "If I were ever to write a novel, it would be about Jonah." My wife held me to that.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  My prayer is that readers will find an informative and entertaining story in Ben Amittai and that the theological nuggets it contains would provide food for thought and nourish further growth in their faith.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  The uniqueness of the prophet Jonah and the richness of the Book of Jonah provide a very rich environment for understanding the nature of God and evaluating the nature of man.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  This is the prelude to a trilogy on the prophet Jonah. It is based solely on 2 Kings 14:25 and introduces the characters and story line that will be carried through the remaining volumes, which will cover the Book of Jonah. With the exception of the tithe and a small percentage for marketing and distribution costs, the royalties are being divided between a missionary family in the Ukraine and a local Christian pregnancy crisis center.
