Product Description

In the high desert town of Frenchman's Bluff, Idaho, Felicia Kristoffersen has set out to create a future for herself that is better than her painful past. Alone in the world with only her faith to sustain her, she must prove herself as this tiny community's new school teacher. She cannot, must not, fail. But, there are those who never wanted her there to begin with.

Five years after the death of his wife, local merchant Colin Murphy cares about just one thing: raising his daughter, Charity. Colin wants to give her the educational advantages he never had. The new schoolmarm's inexperience doesn't sit well with him, and if this teacher up and marries like the last one did, Charity's heart will be broken once again. A woman who hasn't known love. A man who lost the love he had. In the midst of the wide, sage-covered plains, each is about to discover that life's bitterest circumstances truly can work together for good.

Award-winning author Robin Lee Hatcher's book Belonging follows the story of Felicia Kristoffersen, a young, nineteenth-century woman who wants to leave her past behind. She arrives in Frenchman's Bluff, Idaho as the new schoolmarm. Felicia has never known love, and isn't looking for it. Merchant Colin Murphy lost the love he had and is skeptical of the new schoolmarm. Despite heavy criticism from one of the town's most affluent members, Felicia finds that God provides healing and that two broken people can find love.

One of the highlights of the novel is the faith journey of the characters, especially Colin. It soon becomes clear that he struggles to make his faith real, and he questions whether or not he can really trust in God. All of the characters have some sort of faith in God, and the Christian messages are very clear. Felicia takes time out of her day to pray and read her Bible, an important discipline that is exemplified and honored in this book. Belonging also makes the point that churches are not meant to be gossip circles and shows what that sort of behavior looks like from the outside.

The story in itself is not terribly different from any other Christian romance novel. However, that's part of the fun in reading it. The characters in Belonging feel familiar and are relatable. It’s an easy and entertaining tale. Fans of the Christian romance genre will enjoy the book. – Olivia Jessup, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
