This film shares a mom's heart for her disabled child in a most personal way. Other parents caring for a child with a handicap will certainly relate. Teachers, social caregiverers, and related professionals have a window into the daily life of a family with a child manifesting challenging behaviors due to disability. Clearly counting on God, this family has found a way to cope, teach and train which is rooted in an expanded mind-set of acceptance and love. Patience, persistance, long-suffering, inspiration, forgiveness, grace, and finally hope are all in maximum measure as a part of the daily routine in the life of any family, yet the need for and manifestation of these are greatly magnified when dealing with drastic differences in a family member. I so relate. This is definitely a film worth purchasing, viewing and sharing to promote understanding and validation. The family in the film was very blessed with supportive relatives, caregivers, friends, doctors, pastor, teachers and other professionals. The plain hard work, dedication and tenacity on the part of the family, especially the mother, is not to be trivialized. The conversation with the father on his way home from work, though brief, is of major importance. Both parents continually grieve over the loss of a "normal" life. Even so, the progress made with their daughter is nothing short of amazing, even miraculous. This film is about a child in the 1990's. What happened as she grew into adulthood? Does Canada offer anything better for her as an adult than what we in the USA do or donot have? These questions remain.

All in all, BEHIND THE GLASS DOOR is a must-see for anyone involved in dealing with people. It is a peek into a generally unknown world that deepens the understanding of not only a person that has an all-encompassing difference, but also brings into focus an understanding of the lives of parents and others surounding the affected individual.

Hannah was born with a brain disorder(a form of Autism)and had a sleeping disorder as well. Her disorder caused her to have no way to communicate and, therefore, caused her to scream most or all of the time. The parents knew they had to find a way to communicate with Hannah. They hired some compassionate, educated, people to work with her and continue to see amazing results. This development disorder has been extremely hard on all of them, but, God holds there family together.

This DVD was very good. I enjoyed it very much. This is a great DVD for Parents to watch to understand about their children who have PDD,Pervasive Developmental Disorder, a form of autism. This DVD was great for me to watch on this child who has it since she was young. So if you have a child with this disorder i recommend this DVD TO Watch. You won't be disappointed!
