I realized I'd read this before but second reading still good. Captivating story of the end times, the Rapture, and Jesus's return to earth based upon Revelations. The movie of this book is also captivating. The book is well written and hard to put down.

This is the second time I've read this book, but it's been several years since the first time around. I found myself just as engaged and excited this time as I was several years ago! I actually may end up reading the entire series again just because it brings up so many relevant questions about the Bible and end-time prophecies. I love this book and it's such a great storyline!

Left Behind is the first book in the Left Behind series, chronicling the Earths last days. This is always a relevant topic, because as Christians we should be aware that the last days are, in fact, approaching. This book served as a wonderful reminder to me of that.

The story is well-written to bring the prophecies of Revelation into a more understandable view, but sometimes are a little over-the-top with the evangelism. My main complaint with many Christian books is the lack of Christianity, so it seems a little two-faced to now complain of too much. Some people are never happy, LOL! I read other reviews that complained of the lack of character development, but I would assume the characters to be taking a backseat to the message here, which I believe would be the authors intent. I was really OK with the entire book until we got to the last scene in the book, when the 4 main characters (3 men and 1 woman) are seen striding through the airport, arms around one anothers shoulders, proud to be the Tribulation Force. That seemed like such a made-for-TV scene that I had to smile. Can you imagine seeing 4 adults walking that way through an airport?

I remember reading this when it first came out in 1995, and sadly, it is now a bit dated in its depiction of technology. The things that in 1995 seemed futuristic are now commonplace and even beyond what was imagined at that time. A little updating could be quickly done and make this fresh for a new audience. I was surprised that this old of a book was included on a summer reading list that mostly listed new books and new authors, but now realize that there is a major motion picture being released in the fall starring Nicholas Cage. All the more reason to update it a bit, I think. That hokey scene mentioned above may look great in a movie, or then again, it may just make me giggle at the end. Who knows?

Excellent fiction book that gives one person's thought of what life will be like after the rapture.

This book is one of those books that makes you think. Whenever I hear anything about it all I can think of is the song that DC Talk redid "I wish we'd all been ready" because that is pretty much the theme of these books.

For me this book and the ones that follow are fairly quick reads because even though they deal with the Apocalypse and the Antichrist they really don't delve that deep.

If you like dramatized books about the end of the world you will probably enjoy this book and the rest of the series but I must say I never did end up finishing the series. I think I made it through book 6 before I gave up.
