Publisher's Description

God has dreams—just for you

Becoming Myself is a hope-filled book for anyone who wonders if her life will ever change—if she will ever change. In Stasi Eldredge’s most intimate book yet, she shares her own struggles with self-worth, weight, and her past as she shows readers how God is faithfully unveiling who we truly are.

Stasi urges you to lay down your past thoughts about yourself and receive God’s incredible dreams for you instead. We cannot heal ourselves. We cannot become ourselves by ourselves. But we are not by ourselves.

The King of love wants to help us become. God desires to restore us—the real us. As he heals our inner life, he calls us to rise to the occasion of our lives. The most important journey any woman can take is the journey into becoming her true self through the love of God.

It's a beautiful paradox. The more of God’s you become, the more yourself you become—the "self" he had in mind when he thought of you before the creation of the world.

Discover your truest self—the woman God created you to be—in Becoming Myself.

Author Bio

Stasi Eldredge’s heart was captured by God through the Sacred Romance and she has never gotten over it. Or rather, Him.  She is the co-author (with her husband John) of the New York Times Bestselling book Captivating and Love & War. Their ministry, Ransomed Heart, has been used by God to transform the lives of men and women all over the world. They make their home in Colorado. The mother of three grown sons who no longer live in her home but take residence forever in her heart, Stasi is a writer and conference speaker passionate about women embracing the value of their heart and life to Jesus Christ and risking everything on that!

I read this for myself when someone gave it to my girlfriend. I bought my own copy and started reading at her request so we can compare thoughts. I have more time to read and finished well ahead of her and lets say this I found it slightly uncomfortable at times in a appropriate and helpful way. Most of the book either sex can really gain a lot from her writings in personal growth but some places a man can really understand more about who and what he is marrying possibly one day and truly grasp what women go through. Im glad I read this book and enjoyed my girlfriend blushing when she realized what she had me reading in chapters 3-5

We and I mean we are reading wild at heart next by her husband hope its just as much fun :)

In Becoming Myself, Stasi Eldredge endeared herself to me in the first two pages with her sword-through-the-heart story about one-size-fits-all bathrobes at the spa she didnt want to go to in the first place. As a call to freedom and wholeness, the book is inspiring for cover-to-cover reading, but I see a greater role for it as part of a mothers tool belt in empowering her daughters to embrace Gods dream for them. Heres why:

First, Stasi devotes an entire chapter to female biochemistry, the ebbing and flowing of hormones and emotions, and as I read, I pictured a mum sitting down with her inconsolable teenage daughter, sharing the information from chapter three and saying, Honey, this is why you feel the way you do, only to pull the book out the following week, look in the mirror, and say the same words of consolation to herself.

Second, rather than posing as an expert in all things spiritual, Stasis writing voice demonstrates that she is coming from a place of deep neediness fulfilled in Christ and from recurrent failure forgiven. Three chapters that start with the word becoming echo the books encouraging title and theme: that no one is ever stuck, and that healing, restoration, and deliverance are gifts from God. The sensitive re-telling of the resurrection story in chapter twelve deserves an annual read every Easter for the whole family.

Third, living near the powerful rivers that make up the geography of Colorado, Stasi has observed the abundance of wildflowers that follow a spring flood. She follows the dots between this metaphor and the floods that characterize life in a family, life under difficult circumstances, life overwhelmed by past failures, and reminds her readers that the price of beautiful wildflowers is paid in sandbags.

Becoming Myself is an anthem, sung to the tune of Zephaniah 3:17:

The Lord your God in your midst,

    The Mighty One, will save;

He will rejoice over you with gladness,

He will quiet you with His love,

He will rejoice over you with singing.

It is in the lyrics to His song that we find out who we are, and that we learn the grace of rejoicing along with God in the beauty of His wonderful dream for each one of us.

This is by far the greatest book I have ever bought for myself and trust me when I tell you, I have a lot of books. As Stasi says, Take your time going through this. You are worth it!! Turn your phone off, lock a door or spend time in a quite chapel. Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you. The prayers Stasi has written are beautiful. They help you to let your guard down and allow Jesus & the Holy Spirit to work in your heart. I read awhile then ponder my own life and relationships then pray about it. I repeat this process until "my time" comes to an end. I try to spend at least 1 hour every evening. Two to three hours is wonderful. It's like a mini retreat just for me. I would love to meet Stasi to give her a big hug & say Thank You. It's wonderful to know other women have had the same struggles I have had and still do have. Healing & Liberating are the best words I can think of to describe this book. There is no question that "Becoming Myself" is a must read for all women. Thank you Stasi & God Bless You for all you went through to bring so many women this healing experience.

Reading "Becoming Myself" is like having coffee with a dear friend who understands you and loves you anyway! Stasi has an amazing way of helping us see ourselves as God sees us, flaws and all! She then brings us to a place where we can begin to understand that God already knows how messed up we all are. He understands our hurts and wants us to turn to Him for help navigating through all the mess! And when we do? WOW! That's were the healing begins! And it is liberating!

This book was highly recommended to me by some amazing women of faith that I deeply respect. I was eager to jump in and read it because I have heard such incredible things about Stasi and John Eldredge's ministry called Ransomed Hearts and the conferences that they conduct. I soon realized that I am probably not the right audience for this book. Much of the book focuses on how to overcome past hurts from your childhood, poor self image and insecurities. I was blessed to have a wonderful set of parents and a good upbringing which provided me the opportunity for a good foundation that did not set up a lot of emotional scars that needed healing. But, the overall purpose of the book is about changing the things that you don't like about yourself_that don't line up with the Word of God and how He sees you_..to becoming the woman that He intends you to be. With that context, I think everyone can find something in this book that is relevant for them.

My absolute favorite part of the book is the Daily Prayer at the end. It is a powerful representation of what to pray and how to pray it. You can also find it on their ministry website under the tab called "Prayer".

I received a complimentary e-copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
