Beloved authors Cecil Murphey and Twila Belk know that caring for an ill or elderly loved one can be very difficult--and yet inspires a deep sense of love and peace of mind. Beautifully written and laced with stunning photos by nature photographer Betty Fletcher, this book is full of gentle wisdom and personal stories that help the caregiver with such matters as
- feeling guilty for doing too much, too little, or nothing at all
- answering other people's well-meaning but insensitive questions
- watching a dearly loved one suffer through difficult days
Because You Care is a breath of fresh air for those who are in a long-term care arrangement. Here they find practical help, sweet encouragement, and holy inspiration.

It's a wonderful little book called Because You Care. The photos and words in this book will bring encouragement, affirmation, and blessing into your soul that could only be communicated by someone who has been a caregiver for many years. Cecil Murphey and Twila Belk have not had easy or simple lives. But they encountered God in the process and experienced His favor and blessings in ways they never could have if life was simple and easy. They are real, transparent, and practical. They have learned to believe, "When I give what I have, God reminds me that it is enough." Do something special for the Caregivers you know this Christmas with the gift of this book. If you are the caregiver, I give you permission to splurge just a little and pick up a copy of this book for yourself. "You're doing the right thing for someone you love, and that gives you peace." Merry Christmas, Pastor John W. Smith, Confidential Coach, PastorCare Network.

Coupled with stunning photographs by Betty Fletcher, these two authors share glimpses into caring for a loved one. Both writers give us access to their fears, failures and feelings as they draw upon their faith in Christ. Cec and Twila don't always paint a perfect picture of caregiver and that is something that resonates as real. They do, however, stand strong in their faith knowing God will see them through. I'm inspired by Because You Care and have it on my gift list for every friend who is a loving caregiver.

PieperMount Dora, FLGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When I opened BECAUSE YOU CARE: SPIRITUAL ENCOURAGEMENT FOR CAREGIVERS by Cecil Murphey and Twila Belk (Harvest House, 2012), I expected to find a gentle, peaceful read—and I did. Beautiful photographs add to the book's overall aura of calm. But I also found something unexpected: conviction.
As Cec, Twila, and selected others share thoughts about their own caregiving experiences, I reflected on the growing number of caregivers I know. The journeys described in this brief (48-page) volume challenged me to become more sensitive not only to those who require long-term care, but to the heart-breaking responsibilities of their caregivers.
How much should I do for him? How will she know I truly care? What will the future hold? The authors' honest reflections on these and other questions provide empathy and inspiration to caregivers and those who love them. The prayers, summary statements, and practical suggestions presented in a brief, easy-to-manage format make this book a perfect companion for caregivers' busy lives.
Thank you, Cec and Twila, for this thoughtful, transparent work. Next time I see a caregiver, I'll ask, "How are you?" before I ask about anyone else. I'll focus my prayers as much on the needs of the caregiver as on the one who receives care. And I hope to display more sensitivity to the delicate balance of the caregiving life.

Cecil Murphey's and Twila Belk's book, Because You Care: Spiritual Encouragement for Caregivers does just that. The reader discovers thay are not alone - others are experiencing what they are experiencing. Also, the book is beautifully illustrated with photographs by Betty Fletcher. The nature photos reflect well the message of the book.

When we see people who are famous, generous, kind, wise and truly humble, we may think they live perfect, trouble-free lives. However, this book reveals a different experience for Cecil Murphey and Twila Beck. I've corresponded with Twila off and on and met Cecil several times. But until reading this lovely gift book for caregivers I never guessed their responsibilities and heartaches.
Both have spouses with major health problems, so what they say in this book, they have experienced. The volume demonstrates these authors special gift of heartfelt writing and may bring tears to your eyes, tears of joy for the beauty of the book and for the glimpses of the authors' struggles. What you won't feel and they don't want is pity.
Twila poignantly expresses the strong emotions she faces when people say "He doesn't look sick", when her husband drops and breaks a jar of tomato sauce in a grocery store aisle and feels the shame. Few people realize his muscles gradually are weakening and no cure exists for his disease.
Cecil has spent years of his married life searching his wife's eyes, mornings, to see if her pain is worse or has abated somewhat. He deeply loves Shirley and naturally feels stress because he can't do more for her.
Three other women add accounts to the brief essays in this book. Also included are two lists of practical suggestions about finding God's strength and what to do when a caregiver feels they can no longer cope.
The photographs by Betty Fletcher enhance the entire volume in a gentle way.
