I have had some Greek in the past -- probably 20 years ago -- and wanted to review. The author's approach is a little different than what I had before. The other text I had would have a chapter related to an aspect of verbs, then the next chapter would be related to nouns, then one on verbs, etc. This author spends the first several chapters just on nouns and thoroughly covers all aspects of nouns before going on to verbs.
Also his approach is a little different regarding stems and word endings. For example I learned in the past the word ending for nominative masculine singular nouns is "os". He teaches is just as "s" because later in the book the memorizing of just the "s" instead of "os" will help on different paradigms that won't have to be memorized He tried to keep memorization to a minimum. I'm not very far into the book yet, but so far I like it.
At the beginning of the book he mentions his website, teknia.com. It's worth checking out. There are several free downloads on his site like quizzes, vocabulary lists, etc. There also is an overview of each chapter that you can watch. For a fee you can watch a full class (I didn't pay to do that). The free overviews are about 10 minutes or so each.
This is up and away the best Greek grammar available for the beginning student. The third edition has full color pages that are visually captivating and interesting to the reader. It is such a great tool that you could learn it yourself without a structured class.
This is for people wanting to learn the original language of the NT, and it starts from scratch. You do not need any experience starting out, this book picks up learning the alphabet.
This book by William D. Mounce should prove to be a help in learning Basic Biblical Greek. There are exercises to test your knowledge after each section. The information is presented very well and easy to understand and has a unique learning approach using scripture to assist in grasping the fundamentals of Greek. I am looking forward to moving forward using this text along with the CD and additional helps provided via Mr. Mounce's website.
