A handy summary of baptismal from original sources
December 21, 2010
This book was very easy to read. It serves as an introductory text to the subject. Its biggest failings are a lack of comprehensiveness (i.e. could use more citations from original works) and the lack of an index. The cave inscriptions etc. were informative as original source material. The author/editor comments put the material in an understandable context. And while one wishes that editorial comments be kept to a bare minimum, on the other hand, as an introductory text, this book could have benefitted from a deeper contextual framework in each of the eras of the early church (approx. 100-400 AD). Nonetheless a good investment for someone who is perhaps sitting on the fence or is conflicted about one's denominational position on infant baptism. It helped clarify the issue for me.
