Can their love survive two very different cultures?
Lily Walsh has never imagined anything like America. From supermarkets and swimsuits to the way women look men directly in the eye, she's baffled by this strange new land. Raised in a remote Asian village by her disciplinarian father, 24-year-old Lily is thrilled to visit her brother Jeff in Hawaii-until Jeff is called away on urgent business.
Left in the care of Jeff's best friend, Gabe Kapaia, and his family, Lily discovers the paradise of Oahu's north side at the Kapaia Resort. But she walks a fine line between two worlds. Can she embrace her new experiences without breaking her promise not to shame her missionary father? When Lily finds herself falling for Gabe, her heart is torn. Will her upbringing force her to make the difficult choice between true love and family honor?

SqwigglesCaliforniaAge: 25-34Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5Boring and unrealisticApril 13, 2012SqwigglesCaliforniaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 2Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I have read Lori Wick's "Californian series" and loved it. After reading the summary of this book I thought it sounded really interesting, especially since I love Hawaii. It was not what I expected at all. This book was very dull and boring. The characters were very unrealistic and the country that Lilly is from is also made up. I did not like how the characters felt that they had to apologize constantly for everything and anything. No one is that perfect! Also, Lilly is described very childlike and the other adults sometimes talk to her as if she were a child. So, when she and Gabe became involved it was weird to me. I felt like she was some little girl with an older man. It did not work. The end of the book did get a little better, but do you really want to read 200 dull pages for 20 mediocre ones? After reading this book I have removed all of Lori Wick's books from my wishlist because this was a major disappointment!
True GritAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5February 8, 2011True GritAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3The story is about Lily Walsh who comes from a very strict upbringing as a missionary daughter. She goes to Hawaii to visit her brother Jeff, who is called away within days of her arrival. Instead of going back home she goes to the resort of Jeff's friends. The Kapaia family takes her in and soon Lily and Gabe feel more than friendship for each other. Will Lily's strict father allow her the happiness of a marriage?
Will they be able to have a family due to the cancer Gabe is in remission for?
I was very disappointed the first time I read it, because it seemed lacking. I recently reread it and liked it a little better.
I know I did not have the same expectations as before, and that helped.
The story was not bad for about the first half, it just didn't finish up as well as what Lori Wick normally writes.
It is very clean, and the characters real, as is all of Wick's stories. I Would recommend the book if you keep these in mind.
