Product Description

Baltimore Catechism Four is a reference work and teacher's manual for the original Baltimore Catechisms. Since it can also be used as an advanced textbook, it is referred to as "Baltimore Catechism Four." Written by Fr. Thomas L. Kinkead as an aid for catechists teaching from Catechisms 1-3, it offers explanations in greater detail and serves as a more complete Statement of the Faith. For easy reference, the questions bear the same numbers as Catechisms One and Two. TAN CLASSIC. Paperback.

Author Bio

The Third Plenary Council of Baltimore was an American assembly held in the nineteenth century. Presiding were Archbishop Gibbons, the Apostolic Delegate, in addition to thirteen other archbishops, sixty-one bishops or their representatives, six abbots, and a religious general. Its sessions were held from the ninth of November to the seventh of December, 1884, and were comprised of twelve decrees. The Third Council is most noteworthy for the vigorous Catholic school building campaign which it spawned, commanding all parishes to provide Catholic education. It also produced the popular Baltimore Catechism for schoolchildren.

About the Other Editions

Baltimore Catechism One is a simpler edition intended for first through fourth graders; it offers half of the questions contained in Two. Baltimore Catechism Two contains the full number of questions and answers issued by the original commission. It is recommended for those in grades 6-9 or Confirmation classes. Baltimore Catechism Three is intended for students who have received their Confirmation and/or highschoolers. It includes aditional questions, definitions, examples, and applications that build upon the content of the original Baltimore Catechism (Two).
