From any non-Christian point of view, the gospel does not make sense. Grace doesn't make sense. Grace doesn't add up. Why would Jesus come to be one of us, to pay a debt He did not owe, because we owed a debt we could not pay? Why would He do that? Free? No strings? What was in it for Him? Since the church first began, Christians have had trouble accepting God's grace. We have substituted holiness, discipleship, order, regulation, and a long list of things to avoid in place of God's free gift. The result is a "Bad News Religion" that drains the joy and life out of believers.
Bad News Religion is a convicting, liberating exploration of how we, in the name of religion, have shifted the focus from the work of God to our ability to become
worthy of salvation. The result is bondage and defeat. The key to success in the Christian life is not what we do, but who we know. Knowing God and knowing the fullness of His grace is a liberating experience. Most of us don't realize how we have robbed ourselves of experiencing the richness of God's grace.

Jay B1 Stars Out Of 5December 29, 2007Jay BThough Mr. Albrecht has climbed from the abyss of an extreme cult he is still very much in a faction regarding many beliefs. Yes, legalism has it's horrible problems in the church, but this book presents a speck of the issues. Are we to believe that there is no literal Hell? Of course not! This theology is becoming invasive in the extreme faction of anti-legalists, and this author is not exempt by his very words. I pray that there may be some value to a person that has been hurt by legalism, but you will still need to understand the truth of the Bible. There are some good ideas in the book, but they come candy coated with only the good of news. We are to still be obedient to God, and that is not an easy interpretation from Greg's books. To believe that condemnation is wrong at any cost is not the whole truth. Many others have noted the same problems from this book. If God desires for it to move you, then it will. Be a discerning reader of the Bible as you attempt this read. May God Bless you through all of the writings in scripture, not just selected opinions.
Jack Quigley5 Stars Out Of 5October 15, 2004Jack QuigleyGreat book. EVERYONE should read it. The book shows the greatness of the Love of God for His children, and how religions have messed up this understanding of His Love.
Richard Walker5 Stars Out Of 5October 15, 2004Richard WalkerBad News Religion is about grace-imitating legalism, and the backseat that it's forced to take. The well outlined book has balanced quotes and several point by point chapter recaps. It features holy scripture appropriate to its title: Bad News Religion. Overall, it's an above average book and digestable food for thought that no mind should reject. This book is inspired by the Holy Spirit and thus a good source of outer information. It implies differences and similarities between legalism and religion. At the same time, the 12th Chapter is titled:Jesus Is The Answer. It does all this without promoting unruliness, as some authors may have a hard time doing. It also personalizes the author's experience with legalsim, and doesn't come off as a relentless "you don't meet the criteria" for salvation type writing. The specifics of the book can help us to identify if one is in legalism's black hole type gravitational pull. It defines grace on page 54 as "the unseen power of God at work in the lives of those who accept Jesus as sufficient and enough". IT'S NOT A WASTE OF TIME OR MONEY TO READ THIS BOOK.
