Product Description

It's Texas, 1889, and Daniel Monroe arrives and sets up his practice in the central Texas town of Porterfield. The town welcomes him, and he finds plenty of business in this thriving town. The only drawback is that there are very few young, single women available for marriage. The few who live there are sought after by all the single men and could have their pick for a husband. Kate Muldoon offers to go about getting Daniel a bride, as she has so many others in town. He thinks she is a poor matchmaker and tries finding a mate on his own. How many potential brides will he meet before he finds that the one who shares his faith and dreams has been right under his nose all the time?

Publisher's Description

Why does everyone think a girl’s only lot in life is to find a husband and settle down?

Kathleen Muldoon is twenty-three and tired of ranch living. Fiercely independent and determined to become a nurse, she has left her family’s ranch to study medicine under Old Doc Jensen andlive in town with her Aunt Mae, who runs a boardinghouse.

Daniel Monroe has just arrived in Porterfield to set up his law practice. Sparks fly when he is introduced to Kate at the boardinghouse, but the initial attraction quickly dissolves into an argument, the first of many. Daniel is enamored with Kate but uncomfortable with her independent spirit and dreams of becoming a nurse.

When trouble erupts between the ranchers and lumberjacks over timber rights, Kate is furious to learn that Daniel has worked out an agreement she believes will destroy her father’s land. Can they overcome their pride and help each other become everything God wants them to be?

Set in the late 1800s, the Seasons of the Heart series follows the lives of four women and their families, weaving together their stories of faith, life, and love as they bond in friendship only God could orchestrate.

Martha Rogers weaves and entertaining plot which includes romance, history, and inspiration. Her protagonists Kate's determination for independence and her stubbornness and Daniel's unrelenting pride get in the way of following God's destiny for their lives.

The conflict that follows and the spiritual lessons learned are highlighted by "heated" dialog, deep personal hurt, and regret.

"Autumn Song" is warm hearted romance set in a formational period of history with important life changing spiritual implications.

Daniel Monroe moves to Porterfield, Texas to set up his Law Office and for an adventure in the wild west. It was a big adjustment for Daniel to move to Texas. The women , especially Kate Muldoon, were more outspoken and independent than what he was accustom to meeting. He was very attracted to her but she was set on being a nurse and not a homemaker. She would get really riled if anyone mentioned she needed to find a husband, settle down and raise a family. She had other plans for her life and it did not include being stuck with household chores and cooking. But Kate could not deny her heart's feelings for Daniel no matter how had she tried to ignore her him.

I noticed in book one of this series that their way of speaking seemed kind of fake and syrupy. But in book two set in Texas it was more relaxed way of speaking more open and outspoken. In book one I just thought it was the way the author wrote. Well it was only because that is the way people of high society spoke in Connecticut during 1880's. But in Texas they had no need to be that formal they were more laid back in there lifestyle. So a person adapts in many ways to there surroundings and geographics.

I enjoyed this book more than book one in the series. Not saying that I didn't enjoy book one because as I stated it was the difference in there society that kind of threw me off. It was a little like My Fair Lady/Man in reverse. In this book opposites attract, Kate and Daniel are somewhat an odd couple. Life will never be boring with Kate. People can be very stubborn sometimes and think they know better than God as to what is good for them or what is in His plans for them. We have to turn it all over to Him.

I definitly recommend Autumn Song (Seaons of the Heart #2) and Summer Dream (Seaons of the Heart #1).

Country mouse meets City mouse. Rancher girl meets Lawyer boy. And the sparks fly.

This was a delightful book to read, stepping into the life of Kathleen Muldoon, the rancher girl who doesn't want to live on a ranch. Instead she wants to work with the local doctor, a profession frowned upon by society in the late 1800s. When Daniel Monroe comes to town, Kathleen meets him with preconceived ideas. She thinks he is too uppity for the growing Texas town.

As Kathleen learns to be a top-notch nurse, she also learns about relationships. And David finds out what in life is worth valuing. David sets up his new office and takes on clients. Kathleen tries to avoid him, unsure of the awkward feeling she has when she is around him.

I liked watching/reading the relationship develop between Kathleen and David. I wasn't really sure if I would like this book, but decided to give it a chance. I am glad I did. I honestly had to fight the urge to literally judge this book by it's cover. I find the cover very dark and uninviting. But the words inside are welcoming and bright.

Wow! Autumn Song is a fantastic western, complete with cowboys, ranchers, gunfire in the streets, saloons, horses, and a kidnapping. Of course, there is plenty of romance to satisfy the romantics out there. I fell in love with the characters. Kate and Daniel seem like friends. There is a great cast of supporting characters as well that really helped to round out the novel and provide interesting secondary plotlines. This is the second in the Seasons of the Heart series, and I can't wait to read the rest.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my fair and honest review.

The year is 1889 and Texas is ill equipped for the likes of Katie Muldoon. Twenty-three years old, headstrong and determined to become a nurse, Katie is sick and tired of everyone else's opinions about her choices. She has no desire to settle down with a husband and makes it clear every chance she gets. With a chip on her shoulder, Katie is not about to give up her dreams for anyone, let alone allow a man boss her around the rest of her life.

Just when she thinks she's finally made her point to her family and friends, Daniel Monroe, the new attorney in town enters Katie's life and she is immediately at war with her heart. Although attracted to Daniel, Katie finds his ideas about marriage and women are a little too old-fashioned for an independent spirit such as she. To get him out of her mind and hopefully her heart, Katie decides to help Daniel out and attempts her hand at matchmaking, which like homemaking, she quickly discovers isn't her gift.

Autumn Song is the second book in the Seasons of the Heart series. If you read the first book Summer Dream, some of those same characters appear in the second book as well. This is a fun love story with plenty of friction between Katie and Daniel to keep the story interesting.
