Publisher's Description

According to the latest U.S. Census Bureau figures, 1 in 150 American children have autism and the numbers continue to grow. What is the role that faith plays in helping families cope? Is it possible to sing alleluia in the midst of a very real adversity? In this series of slice-of-life vignettes, God's grace glimmers through as Joel, an intellectually challenged young adult with autism, shares his gifts with those who love him. Jean Vanier, founder of L'Arche Communities described Autism & Alleluias as "A moving and inspiring account. Kathy Bolduc is courageous and honest in sharing the love and anger provoked by life with an autistic son."

Since my son was diagnosed with autism in September 2008, I have gotten my hands on any autism resource I could find. Many are clinical in nature; educational but not really touching the spectrum of emotions roiling in our depths as we tread the uncertain paths of this journey called autism. I need the education. Yet, I also need to know someone else has been there. I must have hope that our family will survive this and that our son will be okay.My bottom line: I think this book, and Bolducs others, would be good for members of churches and clergy to read, to help them better reach out to families affected by disability. I also believe anyone needing encouragement in the midst of dealing with disability, specifically autism, anyone wanting to understand more in order to be compassionate, could benefit from reading Autism and Alleluias. I thought it was a heartfelt, well written account of a mother's journey with her son. I plan to let my children read it when they are ready. I think it will be a good help for them as siblings, to realize that what theyre feeling is common, and that God has not abandoned our family. Rather, He has blessed us immensely with the gift of T-Rex.I received a free copy of this book from Judson Press for the purpose of review. I received no other compensation and was not required to write a positive review.
