Teaching our children to document and effectively communicate their knowledge is a primary goal in our homeschool. This product is an excellent resource for doing just that very thing. My children enjoy coloring and drawing in their notebooks while I read from the text. We had enough pages to keep records of projects suggested by the text AND additional activities I included outside of the suggested curriculum. This notebook also includes additional activity suggestions for further exploration and enjoyment.
I am using this with my 7 year old and my 5 1/2 year old and they are both loving it! Some parts are a little difficult for my 5 1/2 year old, but she can do it with help. I would highly recommend this for grades 1-3!
I'm eager to use Apologia. My girls love science and I love having a Godly viewpoint. These notebooks are going to be a big hit in this house. And customer service here is amazing. I never received my first shipment. No questions asked, they verified my address and I had my order quickly.
~*Correlates Well: The Astronomy textbook (by the same author) works hand-in-hand like a fitted glove. An interrelated schedule is included for reading (textbook), notebooking, & doing activities/projects.
~*Feasible: A can-do science! The suggested schedule is based on a 28 wk period, 2-days per week. The purpose of the schedule is to be used as a guide for individual families. It's easily adaptable for our situation, and I believe other families as well.
~*Appropriate for Ability: I love this notebook for my 8 year old. She's taken a shine to it. She looks forward to coloring & attempts to make it accurate! I look forward to see which "Fascinating Facts" she pulls out of our textbook reading & what artwork she creates.
~*Ease of Use: Great "pick-up & go quality"! We incorporate the Scripture copywork as part of our Language Arts program. The whole set-up makes it easy for my child to be fairly independent with notebooking.
~*Additional Ideas: Additional reading and projects ideas for the younger group are given.
The notebooking journal is great! While I read from the textbook my 1st & 3rd grader color the pictures that go along with the lesson. It has great activities to reinforce what is being learned from the textbook. It also has a suggested lesson plan/schedule you can follow which tells you what pages in the textbook correlate with what pages in the norebooking journal.
