A CRISIS OF CRITICAL THOUGHT
We are facing a very real crisis of critical thought among today's youth. Our secular culture increasingly favors a growing multiculturalism that affirms a uniform tolerance of all worldviews while simultaneously opposing a firm commitment to any one belief. Many young people believe that all religions are basically the same. Consequently, many young men and women cannot articulate their own faith.Seeking to challenge these realities, the ASK curriculum aims to empower students with the critical tools necessary for understanding their own faith and for investigating and evaluating differing worldviews.
CLASS DISCUSSIONS - CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT TO ASK QUESTIONS
ASK was intentionally designed to be interactive. That means the group leader must introduce the session topic in class, help inspire conversations based on the questions provided, and use different multimedia tools (DVD videos, SMS polling, PowerPoint and Keynote presentations, online web forums) to create a dynamic learning atmosphere.
Why do we place so much emphasis on interaction? Why not just play a DVD for 45 minutes? In the book Soul Searching, Christian Smith's observations gleaned from the National Study for Youth and Religion (NSYR) show:
- Religious educators need to work hard on articulation
- Youth are comfortable talking about God but not Jesus
- Teens need to practice talking about their faith
- Articulation fosters reality
THE ASK CURRICULUM
Unlike DVD curriculum where the video dominates classroom time and requires only fill-in-the-blank answers, ASK requires a group leader to inspire and encourage students to verbalize their beliefs.

Mike1 Stars Out Of 5ASK CurriculumMarch 26, 2015MikeQuality: 2Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1This study is a fantastic concept but the content falls short for the high price tag. Your small group needs to be very conversational and well educated to follow along and grasp the concepts. As we started the study our audiences faces were that of a deer in the headlights. Extremely dissappointed.

Our small group just completed the Origins DVD. It really makes the intellectual discussions come to life. The small group consists of 18-30 year olds. It is very relevant to today's pop culture and trends.
Beth1 Stars Out Of 5This curriculum needs more to it for $250.February 19, 2013BethQuality: 2Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I feel like the basic idea of this curriculum is great but felt it lacked the depth we were hoping for, especially at the high price of $250.
AlexAge: 45-54Gender: male2 Stars Out Of 5DisappointingSeptember 17, 2012AlexAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 2Value: 2Meets Expectations: 2I have been a big fan of the RZIM and have used the Foundations in Apologetics series with great success in my youth group. Needless to say that I could not wait to get "Ask" once it was out. I hate to admit, I was disappointed. Nathan Zacharias is a handsome young man, but he is clearly uncomfortable in front of the camera. He reads his lines and does not bring any life to the discussion. The editor/director did not do a job that I would expect from RZIM. The constant movement of the camera, the distracting background, and the back light in some of the frames certainly becomes uncomfertable to the eyes, and becomes a distraction more than an art. The Content is variable depending on the speaker and the question. Some are outstanding and others are less than expected. Certainly, and I hate to say it, not worth the price.
jonmarkwhitRussellville, ARAge: 35-44Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5I recommend this product for any student ministry!September 13, 2012jonmarkwhitRussellville, ARAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5We are only in our second week and I absolutely love this study! The content is exactly what I expected. I love that it forces my students to think hard about the topic discussed and remain focused on the session's objective. I have to remind them not to solve all of the world's problems in one week but to take it one step at a time. The discussions have been great and my students are learning to think intelligently about tough questions. I would definitely recommend this study for any student ministry looking to challenge their students to be prepared to answer the tough questions posed by their peers.
Q: Approximately how long are the videos for each session?
The video sessions range in length from 7 to 16 minutes.
Q: Biblical Content The video is intriguing and speaks to a great need in our high school students. I am interested in how much Biblical knowledge is included in the curriculum.
Each session includes a Bible passage/verse on which it is based. This course is not designed as a Biblical Exposition course, but rather as a course that answers questions that teens have today.
Q: Why is this targeted to "Youth"? Would it not be appropriate level for adults? Always looking for good studies for Adult Life Groups or mature Sunday School Ladies class. Would this not be a good choice for those target groups?
Although the principles set forth in this curriculum could apply to anyone. The scenarios presented are specifically geared toward highschool and college students.
