Product Description

Unlike DVD curriculum where the video dominates classroom time and requires only fill-in-the-blank answers, ASK requires a group leader to inspire and encourage students to verbalize their beliefs.  For a group leader, ASK demands a time commitment similar to preparing for an in-depth Bible study.

Hosted by Nathan Zacharias, speakers in this DVD series include Christian apologists Ravi Zacharias, John Lennox, Stuart McAllister, Andy Bannister, John Njoroge, and Jill Carattini. ASK was built to reach students of high school age and up. The interactive ASK curriculum is comprised of:

  • A four-DVD set containing 16 sessions in 4 modules – origin, meaning, morality, and destiny
  • An introductory video to start the class discussion and a concluding Q&A video with an RZIM speaker for each session
  • Exclusive web access for your class on www.rzimask.org containing facilitator and student content
  • A free ASK SMS text message service for in-class discussion and polling
  • An online and digital facilitator’s guide (downloadable from www.rzimask.org after registration)
  • Bonus material from RZIM CD and DVD messages for different sessions
  • Online question and answer videos from RZIM open forum events
  • Ongoing site enhancements with new content based on feedback from your group

A CRISIS OF CRITICAL THOUGHT
We are facing a very real crisis of critical thought among today's youth. Our secular culture increasingly favors a growing multiculturalism that affirms a uniform tolerance of all worldviews while simultaneously opposing a firm commitment to any one belief. Many young people believe that all religions are basically the same. Consequently, many young men and women cannot articulate their own faith.Seeking to challenge these realities, the ASK curriculum aims to empower students with the critical tools necessary for understanding their own faith and for investigating and evaluating differing worldviews.

CLASS DISCUSSIONS - CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT TO ASK QUESTIONS
ASK was intentionally designed to be interactive. That means the group leader must introduce the session topic in class, help inspire conversations based on the questions provided, and use different multimedia tools (DVD videos, SMS polling, PowerPoint and Keynote presentations, online web forums) to create a dynamic learning atmosphere.

Why do we place so much emphasis on interaction? Why not just play a DVD for 45 minutes? In the book Soul Searching, Christian Smith's observations gleaned from the National Study for Youth and Religion (NSYR) show:

  • Religious educators need to work hard on articulation
  • Youth are comfortable talking about God but not Jesus
  • Teens need to practice talking about their faith
  • Articulation fosters reality

The group leader is to help carry and focus the class conversations around the session topic. We want to help develop the student's ability to think critically. We do not expect a group leader to have all of the answers. Actually, we expect a facilitator to learn with the class and model how to gracefully find answers when don't know.

THE ASK CURRICULUM
Unlike DVD curriculum where the video dominates classroom time and requires only fill-in-the-blank answers, ASK requires a group leader to inspire and encourage students to verbalize their beliefs.

all in all, pretty disappointing for a $199 product. The video quality is not great. It's ok, but there is nothing impressive. The content is pretty difficult to just pick up and use. It would have been great to provide some sort of a discussion guide (not just a summary of the videos), especially since this product emphasizes the importance of articulating our beliefs.

The website serves almost no purpose, other than providing a video summary and some PPT slides. The text questions portion of the website doesn't work..

I would recommend finding another product, or borrowing the discs from someone else, before spending $199 on it.

This study is a fantastic concept but the content falls short for the high price tag. Your small group needs to be very conversational and well educated to follow along and grasp the concepts. As we started the study our audiences faces were that of a deer in the headlights. Extremely dissappointed.

ASK is a great tool for an introduction into Apologetics. Our small group just completed the Origins DVD. It really makes the intellectual discussions come to life. The small group consists of 18-30 year olds. It is very relevant to today's pop culture and trends.

I feel like the basic idea of this curriculum is great but felt it lacked the depth we were hoping for, especially at the high price of $250.

I have been a big fan of the RZIM and have used the Foundations in Apologetics series with great success in my youth group. Needless to say that I could not wait to get "Ask" once it was out. I hate to admit, I was disappointed. Nathan Zacharias is a handsome young man, but he is clearly uncomfortable in front of the camera. He reads his lines and does not bring any life to the discussion. The editor/director did not do a job that I would expect from RZIM. The constant movement of the camera, the distracting background, and the back light in some of the frames certainly becomes uncomfertable to the eyes, and becomes a distraction more than an art. The Content is variable depending on the speaker and the question. Some are outstanding and others are less than expected. Certainly, and I hate to say it, not worth the price.

Q: Approximately how long are the videos for each session?

A:

The video sessions range in length from 7 to 16 minutes.

Q: Biblical Content The video is intriguing and speaks to a great need in our high school students. I am interested in how much Biblical knowledge is included in the curriculum.

A:

Each session includes a Bible passage/verse on which it is based. This course is not designed as a Biblical Exposition course, but rather as a course that answers questions that teens have today.

Q: Why is this targeted to "Youth"? Would it not be appropriate level for adults? Always looking for good studies for Adult Life Groups or mature Sunday School Ladies class. Would this not be a good choice for those target groups?

A:

Although the principles set forth in this curriculum could apply to anyone. The scenarios presented are specifically geared toward highschool and college students.
