Product Description

This booklet contains five dramatic monologues and five poems intended for congregational recitation during the season of Lent. The monologues give a unique perspective on the events of Jesus' crucifixion since they are shown from the eyes of Blacksmith, Carpenter, Stone Mason, Tanner, and Basket Maker. These presentations introduce the congregation to those who crafted the whip, wove the crown of thorns, forged the nails, constructed the cross, and chiseled out the tomb. Pastors can present these monologues themselves in a simple manner or assign them to church members as part of an elaborate performance.

Use these dramatic monologues for a unique perspective on the events of Jesus' crucifixion. Viewed through the eyes of a Blacksmith, Carpenter, Stone Mason, Tanner, and Basket Maker, the presentations introduce the congregation to those who crafted the whip, wove the crown of thorns, forged the nails, constructed the cross, and chiseled out the tomb.

I have used Artisans of the Crucifixion in three different contexts, and it has left a lasting impression every time. The stories grab the imagination and the take home items not only involve more congregation members in enabling worship, but they cement the memories of each lesson. I still have people from my first congregation remind me of the series fifteen years later. This is a resource you will want to use more than once!

The drama of Jesus' last week unfolds from the perspective of fictional characters whose crafts were applied in ways not of their choosing. Since a story with action is appealing to all audiences, these monologues not only leave you with words, but visions [mental pictures] of the tools and products of these trades and echoes of accompanying sounds as well. They draw upon the senses!
