Apples is designed for the older student who needs basic phonics review. A new spelling rule is introduced each day, after which it is applied by using Bible verses, sentences, and puzzles. Includes resources for 150 days, plus teacher answer keys. Versions of the Bible used are KJV, NKJV, and NIV. This is a supplementary workbook program to use in conjunction with your spelling curriculum.

I used this for my 9th grader who really had a hard time with spelling. It seems to have helped him a lot.

We have found this workbook to be helpful and manageable. The lessons are about the right size: quick but meaningful. There is enough variety in the exercises to keep monotony away, but enough repetition and review to make the rules stick. Some of the exercises are intuitive in nature, which can be somewhat frustrating when dealing with new material. Overall, however, this is a good tool for strengthening spelling skills.

This book is great for students who struggle with spelling and its many different 'rules'. It repeats the same rule for several lessons with different words allowing the student to see and use it more than just once before moving on to another one.

This book has been a great help for those of my children to whom spelling does not come easy. I personally got straight A's in school in spelling, but soon forgot all those words I memorized to get the good grade. This book takes a different approach to common spelling errors. It focuses on the general rule of spelling with practical practice in daily bites. Very well done! I intend to use it with any of my children who are not naturally good spellers.

This book is a good workbook to supplement any spelling program. My 7th grade daughter uses this every day along with our other program. A new spelling rule or "clue" is introduced followed by several worksheet pages. There is a review page every ten days that goes over the last two rules studied. The pages are fun yet informative. The segments are short and do not overwhelm the student. It is strictly black and white with no color illustrations, but this does not affect my child. I would definitely use this again for my other children.

I like how it covers the most common spelling mistakes, and drills the spelling rule in a very easy and friendly manner.

Tell us a little about yourself. My husband and I just celebrated our 20th
anniversary. We have eight children whom I have
been homeschooling for 13 years. I have
authored 7 books. Our publishing business,
Schoolhouse Publishing, is currently serving not
only as a service to other homeschool families,
but also as a homeschool project for our
children. My husband and I serve two homeschool
support groups.
What was your motivation behind this project? With 8 children (6 currently of homeschool age),
I had plenty of opportunity to struggle through
various learning styles, preferences, challenges,
and difficulties. Everything I have developed
has been developed around my children. Two of my
older boys struggled with spelling. I didn't
want to embarrass them by having them go back
through elementary phonics - so I developed my
own spelling drills. Since we also believe that
every subject should be pertinent to their
Christian walk and their life purpose, I made
sure the lessons I developed would continue to
tie their work to Scripture and character
development.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? My prayer is that older students with spelling
struggles will find some relief by
using "Apples." I realize that if you struggle
with spelling, you will probably always struggle
with spelling, but "Apples" will give the
struggling student some tools to help compensate
and overcome that struggle.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I must give credit to God, my Father, and the
Lord Jesus Christ - I am what I am only because
of Him. He has helped me to apply educational
creativity to each of my children as needed. God
is so good. My biggest source of earthly
inspiration is my husband. He has believed in
me, encouraged me, and even invested in me. I
don't deserve such a wonderful man as both my
husband and friend.
