This is the best kept secret among Greek-based NT commentaries. This was an important revision (1990) of a very old commentary by Bruce (from the 50s). Do not confuse this with Bruce's New International Commentary on the NT volume. If you have a basic working knowledge of Greek, this is an OUTSTANDING guide to the text of Acts. It is just chock full of textual, linguistic, historical, and cultural insight. I can't believe that this commentary is not more popular. As I've been reading through Acts in Greek, I turn to Bruce, and it's like I'm sitting at the feet of a very knowledgeable tutor. There is more great information per square inch in this commentary than in any other commentary I've ever used.As of this writing, no commentary on Acts has yet to appear in the Word Biblical Commentary series or the NIGTC series, both of which are Greek-based. The Greek commentary by Barrett in the ICC has some merit, but is extremely expensive, and it has many untranslated comments in German, Latin, and French. Also, it does not have as many linguistic, cultural, and historical insights as Bruce. As I work through Acts, I'm also using Barrett's ICC (as mentioned), Fitzmyer's AB, Bock's BECNT, Witherinton's Acts commentary, Bruce's NIC volume, and a few others. Bruce's Greek Text Commentary provides much information that none of these others provide.I gave the commentary 4 1/2 stars instead five because Bruce's commentary has one important drawback. It is rather lean when it comes to theological interpretation. But it is billed as a Greek-text commentary, and that's the emphasis. So long as this isn't your only commentary on Acts, this is highly recommended.
