Product Description

What does your child really mean when shouting, "You can't make me!" or "Look at me!" Dealing with a spirited child can make the best of parents feel in adequate and completely defeated. Based on a survey of parents both in the U.S. and Europe, authors and family experts David and Claudia Arp, have identified the eight most common "cries" of the spirited or strong-willed child. And in the pages of this remarkable book, they reveal what these cries really mean and how you can answer those cries and confidently guide your child toward maturity.

Publisher's Description

Besides feeling ready to pull their hair out, parents of spirited children are often convinced that their spirited child would behave better if only Mom or Dad were smarter, wiser or more patient! In their new book on"difficult" children, child development experts Claudia and David Arp remind readers that there's no such thing as a Super Parent.

Having a spirited child can make parenting more intense and sometimes overwhelming, but you can begin to recognize the eight most common cries for help and what they really mean: "Look at me!" "Did I do good?" "You're not listening!" "Let me do it my way!" "You can't make me anymore!" "I hate you!" "I can do it myself!" and "I am a big kid already!" The Arps -- with humor, compassion, insights from Scripture, and the latest in research -- show you ways to develop win-win strategies for nurturing your not-so-compliant child. Help just arrived.

This book is excellent! It offers a Biblical perspective on how to parent a spirited child. This book brings God's Word into its strategies and outlooks. The authors stress the point that parenting a spirited child is difficult, but can bring glory to God and point our children to having a relationship with their Creator.

Having raised three "spirited" sons I can heartily recommend Answering the 8 Cries of the Spirited Child. How I wish I'd had this book when I entered my child raising years! Not only do the Arps give us tangible, specific tools to provide understanding, encouragement, boundaries, and a listening ear to our spirited children, but they give us hope for maintaining our sanity as parents. This book is a must read for all parents.
