Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert have decided to adopt an orphan. They want a nice sturdy boy to help Matthew with the farm chores. The orphanage sends a girl instead - a mischievous, talkative redhead who the Cuthberts are sure will be no use at all. But as soon as Anne arrives at the snug white farmhouse called Green Gables, she knows she wants to stay forever. And the longer Anne stays, the harder it is for anyone to imagine Green Gables without her.

Adorable! "Anne of Green Gables" is an instant classic that will completely capture your heart. Anne Shirley is definitely one of the best-loved characters of all time and one of my favorites... this novel is completely captivating and beautiful. I have read the entire series and love watching the transformation happen with this special character as she grows up, all the while staying true to her inner-self. This first novel will always be my very favorite :)While the "problems" Anne goes through as a child might seem story bookish at times they do relate to real-life in a most practical way.

I bought this book to read to my grandchildren, and I know they will come to love Anne as much as I.

This was one of the best books that I have ever read! I loved Anne and I have the same spunk as her. Gil is so crazy to call her hair carrot and then to fall in love with her! I can't wait to see what happens when they get married! They do get married don't they! If third series is like any other one they will get married. I sure hope they do! I love Gil.
