a Pinkerton detective get tangled in Doc Hollidays story and each othersparks cant help but fly. Despite her fathers attempts to marry her off, Anna Finch dreams of becoming a reporter. A chance encounter with legendary gunslinger Doc Holliday gives her the opportunity of a lifetime, but Pinkerton agent Jeb Sanders is about to ruin everything. Though her father hired Jeb to keep her out of mischief, Annas inconvenient attraction to her hired gun only multiplies her troubles. She doesnt realize Jeb has a score to settle with Doc Holliday, or that her association with the famous outlaw will affect more than just her marriage prospects. Between her fathers desperation to see her wed and Jeb shadowing her every move, getting the story and fulfilling her journalistic ambition just got far more complicated than she ever imagined. Author BioAn accomplished storyteller with more than 850,000 copies of her novels, novellas and young adult books in print, best-selling author Kathleen YBarbo is an East Texas native who experienced the transforming power of words at a young age, thanks to stumbling upon her grandmothers set of encyclopedias.
ChristianBookPreviews.com Set in the 1800s, Anna Finch and the Hired Gun by Kathleen YBarbo captures the readers attention with the odd combination of the typical female heroine, placed in rather bizarre situations. Anna Finch is of marrying age but doesnt care for any husband her father has picked out for her. In fact, she would much rather spend her days writing dime novels and newspaper articles for the Denver Times using her alias. However, her avoidance of love gets more difficult when she meets Jeb Sanders.
After Anna accidentally shoots a man on her wild and prohibited morning ride with her horse Maisie, her father hires a detective to play the role of babysitter to his daughter until he can marry her off. Anna soon discovers that the handsome Pinkerton detective and the man she shot are one in the same. Although they have feelings for each other, they have difficulty getting along. Anna cant stand Jebs attempts to squash her dream of writing about the infamous murderer Doc Holliday, and Jeb is annoyed at having to follow Anna across Colorado on her hunt for the very man he wants to kill. Throughout the novel, Jeb battles with his desire to bring justice to Doc Holliday, the man who murdered his wife. He made a vow that he would avenge his wifes death before he became a Christian, before he learned that only God can bring justice to men. Despite this, vengeance is still on his mind no matter how much he tries to restrain it. YBarbo does an excellent job of depicting Jeb's struggle with God as he is tempted more than once to pull the trigger on Doc Holliday. Anna Finch and the Hired Gun moves at a quick pace, never once leaving the reader feeling abandoned among a carnage of words. The delivery is easy to read and fun, creating an upbeat mood that kept me reading until the end. I would recommend this novel to anyone looking for a snippet of entertainment and a good laugh.
