After Anna accidentally shoots a man on her wild and prohibited morning ride with her horse Maisie, her father hires a detective to play the role of babysitter to his daughter until he can marry her off. Anna soon discovers that the handsome Pinkerton detective and the man she shot are one in the same. Although they have feelings for each other, they have difficulty getting along. Anna cant stand Jebs attempts to squash her dream of writing about the infamous murderer Doc Holliday, and Jeb is annoyed at having to follow Anna across Colorado on her hunt for the very man he wants to kill.
Throughout the novel, Jeb battles with his desire to bring justice to Doc Holliday, the man who murdered his wife. He made a vow that he would avenge his wifes death before he became a Christian, before he learned that only God can bring justice to men. Despite this, vengeance is still on his mind no matter how much he tries to restrain it. YBarbo does an excellent job of depicting Jeb's struggle with God as he is tempted more than once to pull the trigger on Doc Holliday.
Anna Finch and the Hired Gun moves at a quick pace, never once leaving the reader feeling abandoned among a carnage of words. The delivery is easy to read and fun, creating an upbeat mood that kept me reading until the end. I would recommend this novel to anyone looking for a snippet of entertainment and a good laugh. Toward the end of reading it, I realized there hadn't been a dull moment to the book. It didn't have a slow start, no plodding middle, and it had a wonderfully satisfying end.
It ranks near the top of my list of favorites, The historical background to the book showed that a lot of research had been done and was woven into the story. I especially enjoyed the quotes at the beginning of the chapters. The humor was wonderful, as well.
This book kept me reading late and made me anxious to reach the end, but I also wanted to just keep reading more from Kathleen Y'Barbo from this time period. I knew it would be good when I saw her name.
Army MomAge: 45-54Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5December 16, 2012Army MomAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4A delightful story of a young woman who defies conventional society to become a journalist. Upon meeting Doc Holliday and writing a series of articles about him she soon finds she may have more in her life than she bargained for. When her father finds out about her "un-lady like" behavior he hires a Jeb Saunders to keep her out of trouble which of course is when the read trouble starts.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I have to say I have truly enjoyed every minute of it. One of my favorite parts were the Doc Holliday interviews. I thought those added a very realistic touch.

Janine4 Stars Out Of 5Cute StoryJuly 31, 2011JanineQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4A very cute story. One small annoying thing is the ebook file does not include the cover picture as the first page but a green and white text only page. I'll still read other ebooks by this author though.
butterflii410Age: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A Fun BookDecember 1, 2010butterflii410Age: 25-34Gender: female"Anna Finch and the Hired Gun" was fun and humorous! I had a hard time putting it down! I didn't know what to expect at first as I've never read the author but she had me hooked from the very beginning! It was very well written and the characters were likable. I found myself rooting for Anna as she did her own thing now matter what anyone thought! Even though her father was against it as well as the hired gun, Jeb, she still did what was against the norm during that time period. Definitely a read again book as well as author!
