Each chapter is packed full of interesting facts and notes, characteristics, differences between species, habits, habitats, bright photographs and more fun information that kids will love to learn. Factor in interdisciplinary skills by keeping records of where each animal is located on a map, narration questions, notebooking, tracking tips, and numerous household, hands-on experiments and projects. Answers are organized by chapter, with both the student question (in bold) and answer included. 288 indexed pages, hardcover. Elementary grades.

Jenn5 Stars Out Of 5Another great Apologia bookOctober 2, 2014JennQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is our fourth year using this curriculum. It amazes me how much my children learn every year and retain year after year. The experiments are easy to do at home and add the hands on element to the book. I highly recommend this curriculum to any parent teaching science at home.

We have been going through Botany and Flying Creatures for Science and Who Is God and can I really know Him for World View. We are impressed with them so I bought almost all the Apologia books for future use with my daughter for Science and World View. The major disappointment in Land Animals so far (I have only pre-read lesson 1) is that when they discuss the difference between kinds and species and Noah's ark they say he took 2 of every kind not 2 of every species and go on to explain the the 2 of every kind would be the great great great great grandparents of all the different species we see today... That as the animals walked off the ark and began to reproduce they young were similar to but not exactly the same as they were. Like cats, as time went on, the differences between the young and their parents continued to "pile up" until there were many different species of cats. The books presentation the species of every kind evolved from one kind off the ark. This is evolution and it is wrong. Where did they get this information? How can they jump so deep off the deep end? Out of no where when all the other stuff we have read thus far is excellent this takes a wild spin into dangerous territory. I am going to read through the rest of this book to see if there are more flaws or if we just need to skip Lesson one come time to study land animals. If this evolution doctrine is intertwined in the book I will have to throw it in the trash because I will not partake in teaching my daughter about evolution, it is not what the Bible teaches. So far so good on the other books but I am not finished pre-reading them either. I really hope this is the only problem with these series and one day very soon Apologia will correct this error!

My girls have used these books from 3rd-7th grade, and totally gives each of them what they need. From the activities, Creation Confirmation info, to the facts and pictures, this book has it all! The journals even come with ideas on grade appropriate extras, to enhance their learning, from videos to books to supplement their lessons. Love it!
Q: do you think this book is appopriate for a 6th grader My son says he wants to be a zoologist and i have researched this book and it sounds great but I am concerned it will be way below his grade level. He is a quick learner
This book is designed to be used with Kindergarten through Grade 6. If your student is advanced he should be able to progress through the book fairly quickly, but should be able to get a lot of great information from it. You can help him get more out of the curriculum by supplementing with a Lapbook or Notebooking Journal.
