"Jamie Carie's most riveting work to date . . . a story that defines grace."
Window to My World
"Jamie Carie seamlessly weaves in historical details of the Lewis and Clark expedition and the Louisiana Purchase into this engaging story."
Like everyone else in early 19th century St. Louis, Emma Daring had been drawn in by Eric Montclaires charm, and for some reason unbeknown to her, he had chosen her to be his wife. No one could have told her that as soon as she was lawfully his, Erics charm would become her enemy. Who would believe Eric Montclaire to be capable of beating his wife?
Using thoughtful dialogue, two points of view, and an interesting plot, Carie is able to tell the story of two people whose faith in God is the only thing keeping them alive. Emma is trying to figure out how to escape Erics control, and Luke Bowen is trying to figure out how he got involved in the mess in the first place. Luke does what he can to protect Emma once he knows what is going on, from strengthening her faith in God to risking his life for her.
Throughout the book, Emma relates her situation to Daniels experience in the lions den in Daniel 6. In both cases, an innocent person is placed in a deadly situation, and the only one able to save them is God. As stated in Psalm 37:28 [NIV], both Emma and Luke find hope in the Lords promise to protect his faithful ones when all hope seems lost to them.
In one such situation when they are put on trial for the death of an innocent man, the reader knows the truth, but Emma and Luke have no proof of their innocence. Suspense builds as Eric is obviously winning people over to his side as he always does. Then Carie brings in a twist that catches the reader off guard and proves that faith along with patience was their greatest hope.
All in all, Angels Den is a well-crafted novel that many women today will be able to relate to. Whether you know someone dealing with abuse or you suffer from abuse yourself, you can discover how a young woman found the hope of God to get her through such painful circumstances. This is a book well worth reading. It demonstrates that with God, there is always hope. Nicole E. Dynes, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
Britt98Grand Prairie, TXAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A Great Page Turner!January 8, 2015Britt98Grand Prairie, TXAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Angels Den was such an interesting book. It is full of historic sites and details from along the trail that Lewis and Clark once traveled, as well as a storyline that kept me glued to the book till the very end. There is just so much wrapped up in this story!
At its most basic, this is a tale of warning. Emma enters into marriage with Eric Montclaire without realizing the kind of man he truly is. It is a tale of his abuse toward her and the way in which he attempts to control everything she says and does. But another important reminder from Angels Den concerns the importance of relationships. Eric grew into the cruel and manipulative man that he was because of his fathers cruel abuse of his own family. In the same way, Luke Bowen, another major character in the book, is a strong and godly man because of the spiritual influence that his parents provided for him. Luke attempts to help Emma learn more about Gods love for her, in order to give her hope for the future. And he finds a mentor in Judge Littleton. This man is able to help Luke look deeper into his feelings for Emma. She needs Luke and his help, but he must not forget that she is married to another, even if that man is a monster to her.
Something that I really enjoyed was the adventure in this story. It was a very exciting read. Eric Montclaire truly believes he is above all others and can get away with anything. And he seems to! Time and time again, he triumphs. When things seem to have gotten as low as they possibly could, I just had to keep reading to find out if his evil plans would truly flourish. There were some surprises along the way that I didnt see coming and that was fun as well. All in all, an enjoyable story.
