When a winter flood in Fresno closes school temporarily, Andi is outraged when she's sent to live with a spinster aunt in San Francisco, doomed to finish the winter term of school at Miss Whitaker's Academy for Young Ladies. But her new roommate, the equally untamable Jenny, and the timid but tenderhearted Lin Mei, a young girl who works at the school, expose her to a whole new world. Soon these three new friends find themselves in more trouble than they can handle.

The story brings you back in time to San Fransisco in the 1800s and introduces the reader to China Town, girls boarding schools and what it was like to live in that time frame.
My siblings (ages 10 & 13) love these books. I'm their book previewer, and these books are great. I'm a harsh critic when it comes to books - especially adventure books. But these are awesome in every aspect. From the story line, to the characters, to the morals, these books are extremely well written. Many authors try to "tell" you about the character; Susan Marlow "shows" you their character. In fact, you feel like you know them.
These books aren't for girls only. My brother is 13 and has thoroughly enjoyed these books. Yes, the main character is a girl, but the series has a strong male presence in the form of her 3 brothers and her friend, Cory.
Mom2ManyAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5January 30, 2010Mom2ManyAge: 45-54Gender: femaleI highly recommend this book for any age. It has great adventure, intrigue, Christians character traits/lessons. Great for tweens or as a read aloud to the younger ones.In this book (4th in the Circle C Adventure series), Andi is sent to San Francisco (she lives in Fresno) to attend a boarding school for young ladies. A flood in Fresno, damaged her school and school was closed for the rest of the term. Andi, thinking she was going to be spending more time riding her horse, Taffy, learns her mother had other plans. A ranch girl attending a finishing school was not to Andi's liking at all. Her new roommate, Jenny, and Andi get into some adventures trying to save a couple of little slave Chinese girls. The suspense in intriguing and keeps one wanting to read on. Hard to put down.
Jill5 Stars Out Of 5October 16, 2009JillTwelve-year-old spunky Andi is actually happy that her school is shut down and needing repair after the flooding in Fresno.Little did she know that her parents had plans for her to go visit her Aunt Rebecca and attend Miss Whitaker's Academy For Young Ladies for a couple months. She reluctantly agrees, and soon is off to the Nob Hill section of San Francisco.Andi doesn't think to much of the old restored mansion, she will now call her school for a short time. She doesn't want to stay until she meets her roommate, Jenny, who reminds her of herself, a bit untamable. Both Andrea and Jenny meet up with Lin Mei, a mistreated Chinese servant girl.Begin the adventure Lin Mei runs away because she overhears that she would soon be sold and taken far away. It happens that she runs at the same time the headmistress, Miss Whitaker's jewelry goes missing! When Andrea and Jenny find Lin Mei, they decide to go to Chinatown. and hide Lin Mei in a Safe Mission house. Will they be able to keep Lin Mei safe? You will soon discover that this fine mix of characters all have underlying attributes and faults, just like all of us. As parents, you will also appreciate the Biblical values intertwined in this Adventure.
Marilou Flinkman5 Stars Out Of 5November 17, 2008Marilou FlinkmanA tip for grandmothers: San Francisco Smugglers is the perfect gift for your pre-teen granddaughters. Actually girls from 8 to 80 will be thrilled by Andrea Carters adventures. Be sure to read the book yourself before gift wrapping it for your lucky granddaughter.Susan Marlows latest book in the Circle C Adventures series is the best one yet. San Francisco Smugglers takes readers from a flood in Fresno to being trapped in the dark alleys of San Franciscos Chinatown. Ms Marlow keeps the excitement going while Andrea and her friend behave in a way you would be proud to see in your own child. The Circle C books follow historical events allowing youth to learn about the past while enjoying a good adventure story. I look forward to more books by Susan K. Marlow.
Sharon (a librarian)5 Stars Out Of 5October 27, 2008Sharon (a librarian)Susan Marlow has done it again! She has created an adventure story that will capture the attention of the reluctant reader as well as satisfy those that devour books. Elementary-aged children will relate to spirited Andi Carter since she, like every kid, sometimes makes poor choices and struggles to determine the right thing to do. The author has artfully crafted a good story that blends adventure with a slice of little known historical fiction about the old West.
