Product Description

Godrey reveals his personal journey of faith, which brought him to the Reformed tradition. He begins with his high school days, when he first heard of Calvinism and follows his spiritual and academic pilgrimage all the way up to his present pastoral and professorial involvements. Although autobiographical in form, the rich narrative chronicles not only Godrey's discovery of Calvinistic thought, but it also functions as an insightful introduction to some of the central tenets of Reformed Christianity.

Publisher's Description

W. Robert Godfrey has written this personal story of how he came to Reformed Christianity to show the “value and vitality” of Calvinism in an individual’s life. Godfrey’s journey started when as a teenager he first heard of Calvinism. Sharing his heart and his sense of humor, he describes his first experience with a Reformed congregation, his introduction to God’s inspired Word, and his discovery of biblical worship. “For too many, Calvinism has seemed either an intellectual exercise in theology or an inherited religious commitment,” Godfrey writes. “I believe that Reformed Christianity is the best fullest form of biblical religion. And with that provocative claim, I hope that you will read and reflect on what follows.”

Author Bio

W. Robert Godfrey (PhD, Stanford University) is a professor of church history and president of Westminster Seminary California. He is a minister of the United Reformed Churches. He is author of Reformation Sketches: Insights into Luther, Calvin, and the Confessions and Gods Pattern for Creation: A Covenantal Reading of Genesis 1. He is coeditor of Theonomy: A Reformed Critique, and contributor to John Calvin: His Influence in the Western World. Godfrey has also written numerous articles. He has been a speaker at many conferences, including the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization, the Philadelphia Conference on Reformed Theology, and Ligonier Ministries.

Editorial Reviews

For those puzzled by the ongoing grip of Calvinism on many serious believers, Godfrey’s journey from an Alameda, California’ high school swimming pool to the biblical truth we call Calvinism will be an eye-opener . . . and possibly a turning point in their own lives.
Although written in autobiographical form, this book is really about God. Regardless of one’s theological background, any believer can read with great edification this hymn to God’s grace in Christ from one whom many of us have been privileged to know as a mentor, example, churchman, and friend.
