7 is the true story of how Jen (along with her husband and her children to varying degrees) took seven months, identified seven areas of excess, and made seven simple choices to fight back against the modern-day diseases of greed, materialism, and overindulgence.
Food. Clothes. Spending. Media. Possessions. Waste. Stress. They would spend thirty days on each topic, boiling it down to the number seven. Only eat seven foods, wear seven articles of clothing, and spend money in seven places. Eliminate use of seven media types, give away seven things each day for one month, adopt seven green habits, and observe "seven sacred pauses." So, whats the payoff from living a deeply reduced life? Its the discovery of a greatly increased Goda call toward Christ-like simplicity and generosity that transcends social experiment to become a radically better existence.
BoymomSaskatchewan, CANADAAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Must ReadJune 17, 2013BoymomSaskatchewan, CANADAAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book is incredible! Jen Hatmaker can go from deeply spiritual, make you want to cry out to Jesus, to hilariously sarcastic in about 2 seconds. She is so real that you can totally relate to her. Reading this book has inspired to live my life more like Christ, and to really look at my life and ask myself some tough questions. I will never be the same. Seriously life-changing. I have already shared this book with at least 6 people- I want everyone to read it.
Baby Boomer PatLincoln, CAAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Completely Enjoyed "7"June 10, 2013Baby Boomer PatLincoln, CAAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I love "page turners" and this book definitely did not disappoint. I have already passed it on to a friend...to keep the message of "excess" going. I didn't know how Jen Hatmaker's book would relate to me, a Baby Boomer...but the message is loud and clear,
and loved the mental challenge of limiting my life to connect with my fellow planet dwellers in a different way. I laughed. I was challenged. I learned more about God...and myself. And was given a renewed appreciation of the girlfriends God has gifted me! I want to do the Bible Study with them soon.

Jen hits on amazing biblical truths and is convincing without guilt, revealing where our true priorities lie. With humor, sharp wit, and God's grace woven throughout, it had me bawling and rolling laughing, moments apart. 4givenSouth CarolinaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Terrific book!June 9, 20124givenSouth CarolinaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Written with humor and honesty, the author shares her journey away from the materialism and excesses that so many of us take for granted and accept as part of our lives and into the presence of a God who truly loves us and wants us to have more than just "stuff." I laughed out loud in parts, but make no mistake, this is not a comedic work. 7 makes me want to get off the consumer treadmill to find peace in a strengthened relationship with God.
