7 is the true story of how Jen (along with her husband and her children to varying degrees) took seven months, identified seven areas of excess, and made seven simple choices to fight back against the modern-day diseases of greed, materialism, and overindulgence.
Food. Clothes. Spending. Media. Possessions. Waste. Stress. They would spend thirty days on each topic, boiling it down to the number seven. Only eat seven foods, wear seven articles of clothing, and spend money in seven places. Eliminate use of seven media types, give away seven things each day for one month, adopt seven green habits, and observe "seven sacred pauses." So, whats the payoff from living a deeply reduced life? Its the discovery of a greatly increased Goda call toward Christ-like simplicity and generosity that transcends social experiment to become a radically better existence.
Jaime5 Stars Out Of 5Steps on your toes in a good waySeptember 9, 2015JaimeQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Jen Hatmaker's humor and personality shine through in her writing. She's easy-going and forthright as she shares her daily life struggles and very human reactions to the normal things in life making her messiness very relatable. This book, 7, is the first full-length one of hers that I've read. I laughed out loud so many times. Even in the humor, several places hit me as places of excess where my focus on Jesus has strayed. Not in a bad way either. Instead, her crazy experiment encourages me to examine myself. Excellent book!!

BoymomSaskatchewan, CANADAAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Must ReadJune 17, 2013BoymomSaskatchewan, CANADAAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book is incredible! Jen Hatmaker can go from deeply spiritual, make you want to cry out to Jesus, to hilariously sarcastic in about 2 seconds. She is so real that you can totally relate to her. Reading this book has inspired to live my life more like Christ, and to really look at my life and ask myself some tough questions. I will never be the same. Seriously life-changing. I have already shared this book with at least 6 people- I want everyone to read it.
Baby Boomer PatLincoln, CAAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Completely Enjoyed "7"June 10, 2013Baby Boomer PatLincoln, CAAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I love "page turners" and this book definitely did not disappoint. I have already passed it on to a friend...to keep the message of "excess" going. I didn't know how Jen Hatmaker's book would relate to me, a Baby Boomer...but the message is loud and clear,
and loved the mental challenge of limiting my life to connect with my fellow planet dwellers in a different way. I laughed. I was challenged. I learned more about God...and myself. And was given a renewed appreciation of the girlfriends God has gifted me! I want to do the Bible Study with them soon.
