Those of us who have been raised outside either the Amish or the Mennonite culture will find this insightful and educational. I enjoyed the unfolding of the mystery as the main characters pursued their roots and grew in the depth of their individual characters.
I am not a huge reader, but I read this book within a week and had a difficult time putting it down. I am finishing up the sequel, the Amish Nanny, which is equally as good! I'm wondering if there will be a 3rd book in this series. I just ordered some more books by Mindy today. I love a good mystery and from a Christian perspective is even better :)
I had recently purchased and read The Amish Midwife and The Amish Nanny co-written by Mindy Starns Clark and I thought they were quite well done. I'm a huge fan of the Amish so add mystery to that and I'm there! I decided to try 4 of her stand-alone books as well and WOW! They were just fantastic! I found them easy to read, and yet the storylines were unique and mysterious. The books had enough substance that it made me want to keep reading even if it was late at night :)
Highly recommend all 4 of Mindy's stand-alone books (Whispers of the Bayou, Shadows of Lancaster County, Under the Cajun Moon and Secrets of Harmony Grove). She starts with a climax in the first few chapters and keeps the intensity there throughout the rest of the book! Next on my list to buy is her Million Dollar Mystery series and I can't wait!
