Major Jeremiah McHenry is retiring from the army and returns to Medora to make a new life and find a wife. Will he be able to convince the feisty newcomer Amethyst O'Shaunasy that he is the kind of man she's been looking for? Jacob Chandler, meanwhile, is still waiting until he cancourt Opal Torvald. Can he prove to Opal that she will make a fine preacher's wife?
In Lauraine Snelling’s, Amethyst, Amethyst Colleen O’Shaunasy journeys across the heartland in search of her missing nephew, Joel. When Amethyst uncovers a shocking family secret, her life is changed forever. Despite the emotional blow, God provides a new life for her in the close-knit town, Medora, in the Dakotah Territory.
As Amethyst bravely makes the journey to her nephew’s home, she encounters many obstacles, ranging from bouts of homesickness to frontier epidemics and diseases. By the grace of God, each of her needs and most of her wants are taken care of through the kindness of fellow Christians. The antagonistic relationship between Amethyst and her father sets the tone for the book, and by it we can see Amethyst struggle with her new relationships and her faith in humanity grow.
Amethyst is a single woman from Pennsylvania, who reintroduces us to many of the unforgettable characters in the Dakotah Treasures series, including Ruby and Rand Harrison, Opal Torvald, Jeremiah McHenry, and Jacob Chandler. Amethyst longs for a family of her own, as does Jeremiah McHenry and Jacob Chandler. But when love disappoints one of them, will their relationship be salvageable?
Amethyst is a romantic book that leaves you with a smile on your face and warm feeling in your heart. Snelling’s description of the ranchers’ lives and the Dakotah landscape is detailed, vivid, and thoroughly enjoyable. She knows how to capture the beauty and color of the forests and mountains, alongside the desolation and isolation of the vast prairies and deserts. This book is recommended for women who enjoy historical romance. – Tabitha Spacht, Christian Book Previews.com

I think that this was a very nice way to round of the series. I love Amythest, and the fact that they have Pearl in this a lot more then they do in Opal. Also, i woyuld have liked a bit more about Opal and Jacob when they get marryed, but this is essentially Amythests story. I love the relationship between Opal and Jacob, it was just so sweet, how much he loved her, and was willing to wait for her until she came of age. I doi think that she was maybe a little to young to get married, but that's the way it was back in the day, plus, love knows no boundaries. I think that it was nice that Jeremiah gets married in this book, as Ruby was so not right for him. I also love Per. He is so cute!! Keep up the good work Lauraine!!

This series, with the exception of Pearl, was donated to the church library. We have what we laughingly call our reading clique in that we 'line up' for books such as these. Everyone who has read the series thoroughly enjoyed it. We've just learned that Pearl will be donated so we can find out more of her story.
As church librarian, I'm always on the lookout for good authors, & Lauraine Snelling is one I've whole heartedly recommended to friends in other towns. I've not yet read one of her books that I didn't enjoy. This is a good series.

This whole series was great but in this 4th book I wanted Opal to marry Atticus!!!!!! Jacob was so much older and he had a son half her age. I was disappointed that she picked him!!! That is the only thing I disliked about the series.

Too many "heavenly chuckles" to my liking. It makes it sound like GOD is some jolly ol elf sitting in the heavenlies......It really turned me off, and I fear gives the wrong impression as to who He really is. I also did not like the fact it was presumed Melody who committed suicide is in heaven. Another dangerous erroneous presumption.

I really liked all of the books in
this series, but I felt that each
book,except for Ruby,was to much
about somone else.

An okay book, but nothing really special. A nice way to tie all of the ends together. I just feel that PEARL, OPAL and AMETHYST aren't really their own stories. It's too much about all of the other characters.
