As Amethyst bravely makes the journey to her nephews home, she encounters many obstacles, ranging from bouts of homesickness to frontier epidemics and diseases. By the grace of God, each of her needs and most of her wants are taken care of through the kindness of fellow Christians. The antagonistic relationship between Amethyst and her father sets the tone for the book, and by it we can see Amethyst struggle with her new relationships and her faith in humanity grow.
Amethyst is a single woman from Pennsylvania, who reintroduces us to many of the unforgettable characters in the Dakotah Treasures series, including Ruby and Rand Harrison, Opal Torvald, Jeremiah McHenry, and Jacob Chandler. Amethyst longs for a family of her own, as does Jeremiah McHenry and Jacob Chandler. But when love disappoints one of them, will their relationship be salvageable?
Amethyst is a romantic book that leaves you with a smile on your face and warm feeling in your heart. Snellings description of the ranchers lives and the Dakotah landscape is detailed, vivid, and thoroughly enjoyable. She knows how to capture the beauty and color of the forests and mountains, alongside the desolation and isolation of the vast prairies and deserts. This book is recommended for women who enjoy historical romance. Tabitha Spacht, Christian Book Previews.com

Mary5 Stars Out Of 5July 21, 2008MaryThis series, with the exception of Pearl, was donated to the church library. We have what we laughingly call our reading clique in that we 'line up' for books such as these. Everyone who has read the series thoroughly enjoyed it. We've just learned that Pearl will be donated so we can find out more of her story. As church librarian, I'm always on the lookout for good authors, & Lauraine Snelling is one I've whole heartedly recommended to friends in other towns. I've not yet read one of her books that I didn't enjoy. This is a good series.

mary sullivan4 Stars Out Of 5June 13, 2007mary sullivanThis whole series was great but in this 4th book I wanted Opal to marry Atticus!!!!!! Jacob was so much older and he had a son half her age. I was disappointed that she picked him!!! That is the only thing I disliked about the series.
